I agree with that-people eat too much.I plead guilty to that. Its not so much about what you eat-its about how much and how often. Moderation is the key. I find I need to keep somewhat active now that i am older or my joints seem to stiffen up(less flexable)Stretches are good for that. Walking is one of the best exercises there is.People rarely walk much anymore.Walking on cement is no good.A brisk walk is real good for you. I should walk more too and eat less.It takes a bit of dedication and willpower to keep a routine. In winter I like to shovel snow-it is a good cardio workout.

I'm also 52 years old. I try to exercise 3-4 times per week. My motivators are that my wife is 13 years younger than me, and my oldest child is 40 years younger than me. I try to stay fit so I can keep up with them. Also, I am passionate about being a volunteer firefighter/EMT. Fighting fires sometimes requires extraordinary physical exertion, endurance, and tolerance of heat (from the protective gear, not the fire) - all this while having to suck your air out of a bottle. So, firefighting is another great motivator for me to stay in shape. As I aged, I felt like I kept getting stronger, faster, harder, and more fit every year. Until I hit age 50. Now I'm starting to feel it and can tell I'm not what I used to be. My joints are starting to give me problems. I can't quite get my waistline as trim as it used to be. That last 10 pounds just won't come off. Sucks to get old! Previously, I was working out at a neighboring fire station and usually had the entire fitness room to myself. That was awesome! Did a lot of squats, bench-press, and deadlifts there. Tried to work out with real heavy (for me) weights. Then COVID came along and I wasn't allowed to visit that fire station anymore . so, I'm back to only working out at home. I do a metric ton of pushups and also do chin-ups, and a lot of work with dumbbells'. But my heaviest dumbbell is only 40 pounds. There's just no substitute to working out with HEAVY weights! Everything in life is so much easier and more enjoyable when you are in good physical shape - whether it's making dirthole sets, dragging a 2-1/2 inch hoseline, humping beavers up a muddy ditch bank, or spending "quality time" with the Mrs.
What from Christ that soul can sever, Bound by everlasting bands? None shall take thee From the Strength of Israel's hands.

I used to lift weights in my basement until I had shoulder issues in both of them and now am pretty limited to riding bicycle 25 miles almost daily. I have put on 1757 miles since May. I have a bike with studded tires that I ride sometimes in the winter but not many miles total then. Snow shoveling and walking in the winter helps some but I always put on weight in the winter and have to work all summer to get rid of it. I am about 160 right now but get to about 168 or 9 by spring. Trapping hard used to really make me lose weight and one year I lost 19 pounds in about 2 months of hard trapping when things were worth working hard for. My ideal weight I feel should be about 155 to 157. I am about 5'9" and 74 years old.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Almost 58, Back Dr. wanted to cut me open, fuse some stuff. Said I was done working, needed to apply for disability. I disagreed, told him I was willing to do anything to not stop working or being cut open. He asked how serious I was? Well, at the time 2018, I was in the golf business, building golf courses and running grounds crew. I went for a series of spinal shots to block pain and started going to a gym/physical therapy. I was 5-10 and 260lbs. Got shots every 3 months at first, but kept at the gym changed diet. Now end of 2020, I am 195lbs I changed careers, I run a sawmill that makes treated fence posts, we also make and bag colored landscape mulch. Have not had a shot for many months, work out 3 - 5 days a week. No intentions of retiring. Most days I manage the crew, repair machines. Daily I get on the green chain to give guys a break, now and then, today we milled 6 inch x 8 foot green red pine fence posts. Stack those for a hour and no need for weight training.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Will be 59 in a week. Been lifting for 40 years. Been running for 22 years. Can’t imagine not doing either anymore. Mix in a lot of hikes as well. Never had a weight problem. Don’t take any medications. Have a wonderful family that I want to enjoy as long as I can. That’s my motivation Haha! My new hero!! That’s awesome that you’ve been lifting for 40 years! I hope to still be lifting and running at 59 and someone else on here at 74!! I was so motivated this evening I got done with my regular workout and went to the flat barbell bench to do burnout sets.

When I was younger I swam and did weights plus bike rides and heavy bag all on top of playing every sport I could. Now my exercise from Hauling wood, exercise bike and some dumbbells plus trapping and hunting of course. My boy does push-ups and sit ups every day. Once he’s older I’ll have him lifting weights in addition to lots of good honest hard work. Starting to see some definition!
