My 4 and 5 year girls came up with their very first coon set. It seems to be a cubby of some sort. The bait is garbage, because of course coons eat garbage, and some of daddy's "raccoon smell", which was some trailing oil. It's an egg box turned upside down with one flap held open by sticks, the idea being that when the raccoon goes to eat the garbage, it'll knock the sticks over and get caught under the box. I thought no it could use some better staking, but they're convinced the raccoon will just stay in the box. I'm not sure it's gonna connect, under the swing set isn't exactly prime coon location grin

Awesome!

Flashback going on! I made that set at age 4 too only with one Y stick and a string to pull it out when a bird went in for bread pieces.

So I say. FAR OUT!!!

That's about the same way and same age I got started. That was 66 years ago.

My kids build similar "traps" around my place. It's good to see them do something rather than focus on a T.V. Good for you.

Mine was an old laundry basket with clover to trap a rabbit. Even had the stick tied to a string that i could pull from my hiding spot.

The innocence of young is amazing.

I would love it when you go check it you have a happy raccoon chilling in there like a NYC bum.

I also started with something similar over 50 year's ago ha ha I'd suggest going out and trap a raccoon dispatch it and plant it in there set . Then mention to them there set connected but you dispatched it because it was about to get away ha ha

I didn't think to do that last night, but tonight I'll have them reset it and I'll put a tanned raccoon under there after they go to bed.

Oh man please video that. I can just see their surprise and them jumping back when they lift the box.
