Picked up a Savage Axis with a weaver scope last November for a song. After rebate and sale price I was in it for under $200. I mainly hunt private land, but thought it'd make a great rifle for the kids, light weight and low recoil, plus I've never shot at a deer over 200 yards in my life. After reading mixed reviews, mostly haters hating something new and uninspiring, I had my doubts. Sighted in 1 1/2" high at 100 yds. with 170 gr Hornady soft points. Shot well, averaging around 1 1/2" to 2" five shot groups at 100 yds. , good enough for deer out to 150. Opening morning my daughter hit a nice buck at 135 yds on a facing away shot. Bullet went in behind shoulder and out the bottom of the neck. It ran about 60 yds with a blood trail a blind man could follow. I was amazed not only with the shot she made but the massive wound channel . The 350 proved itself to me, great little cartridge for anyone who want low cost, low recoil, accurate , under 200 yds. knockdown performance.

I think too many people try and use the light bullets looking for velocity
however if you look at the numbers a 170gr legend is almost right there with a 35rem with a 180gr bullet
35cal 170-180gr bullet doing 1900-2000 fps with decent shot placement is a meat maker.
with a limit to the .355 bullets available to the Legend I don't think it will be too long before someone orders a run of .355 sizing dies Lee already makes a .356 which might just be small enough
taking the .358 180gr bullet for the 35rem and 358win and sizing it down .003" to load witht he data available from hodgon and have a 180 also to be able to size down the many projectiles for 357 for use in the legend
the thing the legend with CFE-BLK might even be able to run case decently all the other powder options I see listed are likely much too high of pressure

This thread piqued my interest: Here is a good article on the "Legend". After reading the article I personally would not buy one. .350 Legend Articlethat article appears to confirm .356 projectiles will work meaning a .358 bullet passed through a .356 die with a little lube could make the .358 cal bullets work in the legend there was an interesting article about this a few years back in American rifleman , the author had a 8mm mauser .323 he had slugged the barrel and it was more like .325 using a .323 and .329 sizing die available form Lee he honed them out I don't recall if he had to open up the .329 sizer to take less in one push or not but he opened up the .323 die to get his fat 8mm but I recall it being 2 steps to his final size now he could take much more available .338 bullets and fire them from his 8mm with good accuracy. Legend is primarily and likely alwasy be for those states with strait wall cartdige laws or for recoil sensitive shooters , and some for those who want to hunt with a AR. if you can have and hunt a 358 win , 35 rem , 35 wheelen you likely would or would have some other bottle neck 30 ,7mm 6.5 or 6mm rifle already

This thread piqued my interest: Here is a good article on the "Legend". After reading the article I personally would not buy one. .350 Legend ArticleI was just reading the same article and yes, there are some issues with bullet diameter and headspacing on case mouth. Winchester chose to go with .355 bullets for some reason and for the guy that just wants a rifle for deer hunting in straight wall states, it should be fine. Reloading is another story. One article said that pulled factory bullets were from .349-.355-hardly conducive to accuracy. Michigan has the same laws here and the .450 Bushmaster has taken over the deer woods. My .45-70 isn't legal even though I can duplicate .450 ballistics. Politicians.

Seems people who want to reload/hand load the 350 don't like it. But if you just want to plug a deer or two each year with factory ammo, it's just fine in my opinion. you are absolutely correct if all you want to do is plug a deer or two in a strait wall cartridge state find a 350legend ammo that works for you an buy a bunch I would not be surprised however that if laws in a few states change and 30 years from now 350 will be as hard to find as 35rem right now you can find 350 all over the place Fact , Relaoders have a hard time not thinking like Reloaders . just the way we are wired

Why would they go with .355" vs .358"? The bullet selection for the .358" is way better for that velocity range.
I think that the 350 would have stood a good chance on making it had they gone with .358".

I have one of Mike Bellm's first edition 357 max encore barrels. I haven't scoped it yet as I can't figure out what bullet to load. swear i've put about everything thru the one i have. it likes 180 gr xtps alot. i've got boxes of them but seldom use them anymore. had really good luck with the 180gr hensons that bellm use to carry. not sure of the availability of those currently. i only have a few left and would consider them again. i used some hawkes at one time but i could never find a load that worked for me. currently i'm running the 180 furys---they are the best of anything i've used so far as far as accuracy, velocity and performance.
