I checked a road kill coyote the other day. Getting close now. With todays market I am not going to kill anything early. Think I will work a few more days. Even in the morning it is still not cold. 31F right now. Supposed to hit 65F.

Just a couple nuisance beaver jobs but winding down, cleaned out, all but that last shred of evidence by the nervous sole veterans. Got some good sets though, fingers crossed. At one location I was contracted by a local resort with an old airstrip surrounded by ponds, having problems with flooding and hadn't had any beaver management in a decade. Started in September, pulled #20 out on Sunday, most were big ol' hogs too.

I have to check sets after work because I start work so early in the morning. Last night I caught one beaver in a foothold set at the base of a slide next to the bank den. But, I also had a wring out from a Bridger 280. I think THAT's a first for me! I don't know how that happened but I suspect it was because I used some twigs and sticks to fence around the sides of the trap in the run the trap was set in. I wonder if the beaver was grabbing those twigs to gnaw on and happened to grab the trigger wires, thinking they were twigs to eat. If I had checked that trap in the morning, I might still have had a beaver in it. And now, that beaver is going to be just that much harder to catch. Just when I think I'm starting to get the hang of this trapping game, the animals always show me I still have much to learn.

Have to wait until 10:00 am, until I can drive the ATV, due to Firearms season, then only have until 2:00pm to check. Right now snowing like crazy, almost 2 inches since 6:00 am calling for 5-6 inches by noon, water line shut down to rain, and then suppose to warm up to the 50s by Thursday, looks like I'll be washing some critter fur.

Figure out which side it is and position your foothold drowners accordingly. Or better yet set for back foot catches.
