I like to mess around tying all different kinds of knots. But,,there are two basic knots, that if you know them, they will make any outdoorsmans life easier. They are the Bowline Knot,,and the Taughtline knot.If you learn these two knots,,youl be surprised at how much you use them.I would post links on how to tie them,,but I suck posting links.Any thoughts?
i agree everyone should know how to tie a knot.. square , .bowline is good.... im wondering if your taughtline is what i call half hitch or double half hitch.... but defititly 2 knots that have value

The Taughtline is the knot you put in the rope you use for tent stakes and poles and such. You can easily tighten up on or loosen if needed.
Netknots.com has all kinds of knots and how to tie them.
The knot I've been using to climb trees with for hunting that's useful for a lot of things is the figure 8 on a bight. Easiest knot to tie correctly. Good for end knots or midline loops. Also usefully is the alpine butterfly for midline loops.
Been showing my nephews ....the bowline . The bowline is one of the stronger knots...but it’s claim to fame,is the ease of untying it,even aftah a big load on it. Then there the Truckers Hitch....another handy knot. The slippery sheet bend too. I like knots
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
Clove hitch is a good knot,,but I use whats called the Constrictor knot in its place.Very similar,,but the Constrictor knot is tighter and wont work itselfe loose.

Bowline had a rather controversial reputation amongst climbers. It must be backed up, of course most knots do.
I always tie my bowline with the tag on the outside just to keep the inside loop cleaner. I know its not right because every time I see it demonstrated its done with tag on inside like bottom green rope in Martys video. I've never had it fail the way I use it though.
You need to understand the concept for each knot, just how to tie them does not work for long term memory. Little tricks and how the knot goes together, front back and sideways....
Knots are very cool, I keep a few lengths of cordage on my desk and tie knots almost every day.

I have a go to knot on the trot line that in its simplest form is a slip knot with a "blind" knot on the tag end. This is with a rope type line if course, and if tied right can't be overcome, and can be disassembled in a heartbeat. Wish I had a video channel, lol!
