Never dealt with marten, are you not supposed to pin the ears (like a fox or coyote)?
They look nice regardless.

Where we use to Elk hunt in Colorado I would 5 to 10 everyday. They were so many, and they would shoot up a tree like a squirrel.

Boco, i'm surprised your marten aren't darker colored. The color isn't much different than Wy marten. Co has darker colors that I've seen, but they are awful light. Bet yours are some heavy buggers! Pretty fur and nice handling!

Do you have a registered line, Boco? If so what species do you have quotas for. Does the govt. ever place limits on how many of a species you can catch.
Any idea where your going to sell?

MT-I hold licences on 3 registered traplines.I could sign up for more if I wanted to giv'er.Quotas are trapline specific and can be adjusted by trapper and fur tech.With some data (skulls indicating juvenile ratios)of course.There is no limit on the amount of traplines you can trap on so the only limits are your ability to cover thousands of miles of ground in winter in the boreal forest.
Incentive to trap hard is not there right now with the uncertainty in the fur market.I did not trap marten last year at all on any lines.This year I am trapping a few short lines here and there to keep a handle on health of the lines.Marten keep well dried in the freezer.I will ship a few of the better ones to guage the market and I will tan a few for private sales.Tanned marten dont sell like tanned beaver or otter,but with the lower prices tanned marten will sell to certain people.
It is still prohibitive to sell marten hats.Because of the number of skins required and the tanning costs you are looking at $450 minimum for a full fur marten hat.
