I am new to snaring wolves and I am trapping in Southeast AK. Rosscoak on here has already helped me a lot but I am curious how everyone else anchors their snares. These woods are mostly giant trees and low blueberry bushes. Do you use wire? Cable extensions? What do you do if there is no small trees to anchor high to? Just find a different spot? Thanks

Make a loop on the end of your snares with a double ferrule and put your snare through it when you put your snare around the tree.
If the trees are like 6’ or so too far then I’ll use an extension. Extensions are wrapped around the tree the same way and then connect the snare to the loop on the extension.

Cold as ice!

That's easy enough. How long are your snares?

I will toss this out there as an idea. At one of my bait stations there are big spruce like you describe. It is a fixed location a spot I use year after year, I ended up finding a bunch of those railroad spikes and hammering them into the trees as anchor points, it works for me.

X2 on the spikes. I use 3” galvy staples year after year for wolf snares on the big diameter trees that take too much cable to choke.

Great work Dylan, I'm gonna ask you for pointers from now on.
Hard work usually pays off!
I like those broken black colored ones

Awesome! Still waiting on enough snow to set traps farther out, all within 10 miles right now. Hope to see more catches

Looks like you have the anchoring and setting figured out. Nicely done! Really like the coloring on the bottom one in the pic of three.
