I have been using assorted bait and doing OK, but I would like to try an commercial lure attractant now, I have been using conibears in bucket set. Any advice on which kind and how to apply would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I really like dunlaps firefly it also smells like you want to put it on toast and eat it. another one I like is more a homemade bait I make I take 2 cans of sardines 2 cans of mackeral 2 cans of smoked oysters and 2 cans of herring all in oil and I dump it all in the blender and blend into a paste. works great on coon otter youll also catch opossums as well as skunks. ive had great success with this and it costs about 14 bucks to make. another one is fur king its a sweet bait by blackie I believe and ive had great luck with it as well. I have an over abundance of plastic spoons so I use those to scoop some bait and throw it in the back of the bucket. with the firefly I put it right at the entrance to the bucket and above the trap so it travels better in the wind

To each his own , but why not mix up a batch of cat food with a couple other ingredients and kill those cheap coon with cheap ingredients?

we also make a cat food bait with the cheap cat food covered in bacon grease and works great in dps. only reason we tried the firefly was jeff dunlap did a demo for the youth at the Illinois convention last year and gave each kid a bag with a dp and 1.5 coil a jar of his fish dp bait and the firefly lure all in the bag was super awesome of him to do that and we have just been using it as we go. I agree I would not spend a bunch of money on coon supplies. 14 bucks is pretty cheap for 2 quarts of paste bait

Yea Mike I like the bacon grease, maybe some molasses and or some cherry coolaid .

Bigfoot if your wanting to help out the lure makers I’m sure they would be happy to sell you a bottle of fish oil , anise oil , trout oil ....... the list goes on and on .
I don’t think you can go wrong if you start with cat food !

I like to use dog food or cat food (which ever is handy) and Craven's Moonshine lure. In my area, most the raccoons are bouncing between either corn fields or deer feeders so I like to hit them with something completely different than what they are getting on their own. I also like the Moonshine lure bc it smell kinda like cough syrup, which is a nice break from all my coyote lures.

Firefly is awesome leave it in the sun and it glows a little. It smells like pineapple gum balls. I gave a half ounce and a cage trap to a guy who had coon problems and he caught 7 coon and 2 possums on that and pecan pinwheels!

Mike the molasses will soak into the cat food pretty good if given enough time . To be honest it stilL will be a little on the sticky Side . I’ve had the best results from adding Kaatz brothers fish grease and fish oil , a little bacon grease and top it off with anise oil . I mixed this in a ten gallon bucket and let it sit for a few days and added the fish oil ( about a quart) at a time and it seems to be holding up well . I did enough to fill a five gallon bucket and added about an oz of anise oil afterward and let it sit for a week or two . That was last year and I opened the bucket just the other day to refill the gallon jug that I carry on the line and it still smells good and has good consistency ( no crumbling ) , I see no reason to believe it won’t be good for several years.

I live in the Ozarks too. In January I use alot of Reuwsaat wicked coon gland lure. Blackie boars delight. Dunlap coon fish and coon gland lure. Marsyada coon special is another good lure. The gland lure I use in Jan and Feb. The smaller coons will shy away from gland lure. But the big boars will come too it.
