Kids growing up need to understand from the beginning :
1. It's your House 2. Your paying the cost to be THE BOSS 3 . . . and you're a heck of a lot bigger than they are!

I fully believe in spankings. I spank my kids. Well, used to. I don’t have to much now, because I did before, so now when I say something they know I mean business. I get compliments about how well behaved my children are a lot, and it’s because I expect a certain level of behavior from them and if I don’t get it there are consequences and they are fully aware of what those consequences are.
Earlier in the store today my 8 year old daughter asked for something, and I said no. She just said “Okay” and there was no whining, no long face, no sulking. That’s because I have spanked her in the middle of the isle for acting up before.

I remember one time I was about 10 and I told my dad no. Not sure to this day what I was thinking because really knew better. When I said it my little sis jumped up and yelled at me "run for your life". I wasn't fast enough.... nowadays I just die when I see kids tell their parents no. Me too. My kids don’t ever dare tell me no. Once we were out in public and I heard my kid say some disrespectful things and I turned around ready to put the fear of god in him, lucky for him I realized it was someone else’s kid that just sounded like mine. That kid gave his parents what for for a good fifteen minutes. I will not tolerate that from mine and I wish other parents would grow a backbone so their brats don’t rub off on mine

Most parents will, in some way, always love their children, but that does not mean you have to like them. They are not your equals, nor will they necessarily be your friend. You are not there for a popularity contest. You should be there to guide them to the best of your ability to become a good member of society and be as successful as they can achieve. A child lives what they learn.

I never liked the thought of spanking kids, I was hit as a kid and sometimes it may have been a bit excessive by modern measures so I was probably a bit biased against it and failed to see the need for it.
My buddy has a three year old, cutest kid you've ever saw, problem is this kid only knows the word "NO", they have to ask him what he wants to eat and then they make it for him, he wont eat the same meal as everyone else. The other day he got angry his momma was trying to take his blanket from him and he started screaming at her and hitting her.
I now fully see the reason why it is acceptable to hit kids. Due to the kids terrible behavior I am finding myself actually not liking the kid, I don't even want to go to my buddies house while the kid is awake. Child needs a whoopin. I think it was rvsask that argued kids don't use the word no early in life.

Don’t let your kids do things that makes you not like them.
If parents don’t correct their children, on down the road society will, and it will be far worse, harsher and uglier. That's how it WAS and how it should be , but now they are coddled into adulthood and become snowflake Democrats , demanding everything from the government and shunning responsibility

Establish dominance while they're in diapers. The rest is easy. Boy there’s a lot of truth right there. Osky

I probably spanked both of my kids a dozen times total. I don't like spanking and tried to find other ways. But sometimes, it's serious enough that you absolutely must get their attention and time outs aren't going to do it. Nothing wrong with controlled spankings.
The most important thing though is to be consistent. Your kid needs to know before they are punished exactly what the punishment will be. If you are consistent, they will quickly connect the bad behavior to the punishment before they do the bad behavior. It's the parents that aren't consistent, that punish one time and laugh it off the next that ruin their kids.

Oh boy, this is a big topic here. And we are as divided at a traditional seminary as perhaps our culture. We agree, it's not as much about spanking in the last decades as a re-think about what all types of authority are. We live this everyday. It's our time in history. Parents are the authority, with the man the head, according to Scripture. Crystal clear.
Our culture, when the hand swings for the swat, now routinely considers all sorts of scenarios associated with that swing that our parents didn't have in their minds.
CPS, social pressures, self-help books, reports on police brutality, and on and on. It's actually mind boggling all the opinions now on how you should raise your kids.
But make no mistake, good or bad, respect of authority is not being taught like it used to be.
