Not just USPS. On Saturday Dec 19 I tried to ship a bear trap to the UP of Michigan, about 400 miles. Arrived at regional FedEx/UPS to find that Fed Ex was not accepting any packages and had not been for a day(so the man in charge told me). UPS WAS still accepting packages so I had him do the UPS paperwork, paid and left. As of 4:42 this afternoon, two days and 5 hours later the package is still setting where I left it. It has not left the building.

They are swamped. Not enough employees due to the cuts in funding. From what I hear trucks are loaded but not enough drivers.

Received two packages yesterday that had been hung up in Harrisburg for a week. Things were coming through earlier in good time. About the time the private carriers started turning down, the post office got bottled up quick. I heard about 1/3 more volume than in 2019. That's a massive increase/volume to work off, especially with covid rules in place.

Some say the USPS should be privatized as if this wouldn't happen if they were. All the private carriers have limited acceptance. If the USPS were private, they would be also limiting. Shipping needs would be bottled up anyways.

If they cant handle the volume they shouldnt raise the rates, what?, 2 times a year or so? I remember gas surcharges years ago I dont think they ever took off. We are paying up for a service. At one of my stops I kept seeing a blue Ford Ranger parked and couldnt figure out what he was doing, The other day I found out- a UPS truck stopped and picked up the guy, must be extra help this time of year.

My wife sent a package to her mom in Northern MN a week ago. Her mom hadn't gotten it so she tracked it today. Went from St. Paul on a 5 day trek to Omaha then 2 days back to Minneapolis. Left Minneapolis this evening for its destination according to the tracking. Might get there by Christmas...

I wish these mutts would quit crying about the post office!! The fact that you can spend 40 cents for a letter, or a few bucks for a package that goes cross country in a relative short time, should cause you to be grateful!!!. Spoiled brats!

Cat Daddy Im catching all kinds of flak from customers getting real late shipments or none at all. They paid Priority shipping which boasts of 3 day arrival. I did my job right, maybe they should gear up for times like this? A guy just asked if I got his address wrong, kind of impossible to do when you print it off of his payment. I checked, Im in PA, he is in MA, its in Kansas City going the wrong way LOL.

They only hire dept motor vehicle rejects. Most of the onez i have to deal with aren't even usps employees but contractors.

At 40 centz it's over priced for the service you get.

My wife and sons just found out tonight...3 days before Christmas, that the packages that were out for delivery for the last week had actually been canceled!! She kept getting delayed messages but it was “out for delivery by 8pm” tonight. At 8:45 she inquired again about the package and it still shows “out for delivery” she called the company she ordered from and come to find out that package was canceled a week after she ordered it. My son had the same thing happen, and that’s with two different companies!!

3 packages out there in USPS cyberspace now...

One is a T-shirt I ordered for my dad. Made it to Tulsa... Normally after it gets to Tulsa it gets sent to my local PO and delivered... But it went from Tulsa to someplace in Texas and has been sitting there for over a week.

I wouldn't think incompetence of this kind would be physically possible.

Priority mail is not a 3 day guarantee. If you want a guarantee, you'll have to use express! And you'll pay for it

cat daddy - a first class stamp is 55 cents. Been quite a few years since it was 40 cents. Just saying........

Still a bargain.

There have been no cuts in funding. USPS doesn't receive taxpayer funding. The problem is staffing. Nobody will work for $15/ hr starting out. The ones that do end up quitting after about a month of working 10 hour days , 7 days a week. Less than half of new hires stay. It's a constant turnover....and an aging workforce......unless you were referring to UPS.
