Three's are too much for our raccoons here even the two coiled. I've went down to the #2 style for that reason and I've never felt the need to four coil any of them. They've held coyotes with ease. We have plenty of freeze/thaw here and I can't say I've seen any issues. I did run two dozen #2 four coiled this season....I don't know how many traps you guys set or if you're doing it with your feet. I personally would not want to set out 100-150 four coiled traps. Not because I can't but because I don't have a need for it.

I’ll second that

I 4 coil my Duke 3's and 1.75's , to help bust through the crust with our freeze thaw cycles and keeps even pressure on the levers. If I take off the main springs the smaller "4 coils" feel weak compared with the main springs and don't really add as much power as you might think. I have seen a fox foot destroyed in a 2 spring 1.5 trap and also completely unharmed in a 4 coil #3 trap. Until we get hydraulic operated traps I don't consider anything "super powerful".

What pan pressure do you keep the MB’s at?
