This fall I came down with a case of anaplasmosis; a disease caused by a bite from a black legged tick.
My symptoms were high fever, tremors, hallucinations, chills, difficulty breathing, and extreme weakness. We thought that I had covid. Each day I got worse. My wife contacted the doctor who advised to get me to the emergency room.By then I was so weak that it took me an hour just to change my clothes to go.
Fortunately the hospital staff quickly discounted Covid 19 and diagnosed me with anaplasmosis. They started me on doxycycline and the nurses told me later that I was near death when they got me.I had IV's going in both arms and was stuck with countless needles.
Spent two days in the hospital. The disease had adversely affected my kidneys, lungs, liver, and weakened my heart..All have gradually returned to normal, but I have since read that this disease can be fatal, particularly 60 and older. I'm 82, and if it were not for the actions of my wife, the skill of the hospital staff, and the prayers of family and friends I might not be here now. Thank you to a
Today I finally got back out and set some beaver/otter sets. It felt so good . Trapping is my thing.!
I tell my story so as to warn other trappers. There are other types of ticks out there that cause numerous types of diseases; some fatal. Take precautions.

Great that you were able to overcome that especially at your age.

Had Erlichiosis, now called Anaplasmosis back in 2008. I was 55 back then and the symptoms were exactly the same as you describe. It was the sickest I have ever been. There are 3 days of my life that are simply gone. It hit me very hard and I still have some lingering effects...not been the same since.

Take care!
