Ordered some Victor rat traps today and will be making boxes to try to get my first weasel.
But, I have a problem... I don't have any fresh rat or beaver meat available for bait. Is there something from the grocery store that will work?

Just happy to be here.

See if the butcher will give you some beef scraps.Beef scraps are primo bait for mustelids.

best thing ive used is a tub of chicken livers from the grocery store. add a few drops of kitchen type anise extract and stir it in good, replace lid and store in the fridge. anise is very attractive to weasels.

The only weasel I have ever seen was left on the back porch by the cats. Guess I should look up how to trap them and make some boxes along with the wood squirrel and rabbit box traps that were in a thread I cant find now.

I use Chicken liver also. I add Sodium Benzoate and salt to keep fresh and thawed to some degree. I use a Anise/Petroleum Jelly mixture on a Q-Tip and/or Lenon's Super All Call Weasel lure on a Q-tip. I set up all my weasel boxes ahead, I put bait and lure it all in a tuna can. I store my boxes outside, in a dry area. I put some dry grass and bird seed in them and let mice move in, they add some au naturel ambiance...

Let's go Brandon!

Any meat bait will work for weasels.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I use beef liver since I'm not supposed to eat it due to high cholesterol. When I order 1/2 a beef, I still take the liver for this purpose.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Years ago, we had a chicken processing plant in our town. I used to get discarded chicken heads which worked well for bait.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.
