Minneapolis would get you in the same area but you'd be close to Salina which isn't a bad little city.

Clay Center would have a lot going for it looking from an outdoorsman's perspective.

Once you get past Salina and Wichita headed west understand that the population drops off quickly. You might think you are in the dessert until the snow starts blowing and they you will call it (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) LOL

Good information.

Leftlane, the town of Salina has gotten very liberal.

I believe a former member of this forum still traps the NW corner of Ks. Catches a lot of cats. You can see some of his catches for sale on taxidermy.net. He doesn't live in Ks.
I drove through Ks. On I-70 once on the way to the NTA in Columbia, Mo. Big change from west to east.

I could be wrong but I don't think he was trapping NW KS

I didn't think it is too bad for a town that size but the newspaper in that town is terribly liberal.

I doubt lefty got too involved with the politics while he was there. My guess he saw it more as a town big enough to find some trouble but small enough to get away with it. At least thats my guess from the crowd he ran with. Lol

He wasn't.

I'd move to Kansas in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the summers. Being from NC that won't be a change for you.

I have to admit I don't like the Ks summers. Especially the humidity of the Eastern half, which is were I live. Friend of mine that grew up here and now lives out west comes back and he said he can't stand the humidity here now

If your hunting whitetails don't go to far west. There's some out there but there are more and just as big east and central.

Yes, there is a vast difference between humidity in the east and humidity in the west.

My understanding is as a nonresident you have to apply for deer tag and then if you get it you have to apply for a very limited mule deer provision for that tag. So most likely you will be hunting whitetails but not a 100% on that. Just what I recently read on how it works. They want to make sure to get your money from the tag by dangling the possibility of a mule deer in front of you is what I thought.

A lot of good advise. I obviously don't live there but have a lot of relatives and friends there and have spent a lot of time in every part of the state. Like D Clifton=stay away from those cities listed. My own personal preference is that I love the whole state but am not a fan of the extreme SE part of the state.

I live in southeast ks near altamont and Erie. The people are great the trapping laws are good the whitetail hunting is great although gaining access is a problem. I live in the mined land wildlife area which is 14000 acres of public land that sees a lot of hunting pressure. Overall a great place to live.
