Anyone go on it to find the pedophiles and perverts in your area? I'm lucky, I only have about a dozen near me. Most have tens or hundreds.

Not to make light of the list, but I have a friend, Big Pete, who was tailgating at a Bengal's game. He was urinating behind a dumpster, by a wall, when a police officer spun him around, causing Pete to urinate on the police officer. Pete was charged with public exposure and assaulting a police officer and had to go to court. If he had been convicted, Pete would have had to register as a sex offender. He got a decent lawyer and only had to pay a small fine. There are a lot of people who relieved themselves in public on those lists.

Real pedophiles should never be let of prison, while still intact.

There's a lot of guys who were 18 or 19 years old and had girlfriends under a particular state's "age of consent". Here in SD, its 16. If baby girl is 15 50/52 weeks old and young man is 18 2/52 weeks year old, and baby girl's parent wants to press charges for that basically 2 years of age difference, young man becomes a convicted "sex offender" and carries that record for the rest of his life. Doesn't fit the pedophile or pervert category for me.

If you find someone and you’re concerned, look knot the details of the case. I know a young man who was 15 (I know the case well and and am not exaggerating) and he and his 15-year-old girlfriend were handsy with each other. The state prosecutor (WI) charged both the boy and the girl with sexual assault of a child because neither could give consent as in WI you must be 17 to be able consent. Didn’t matter they were the same age and that both pursued each other. A hand on top of the shirt and a hand on top of his jeans and both were charged as child sex offenders. Remember that a DA is elected and sometimes makes calls that benefit their re-election.
So- if you see someone has a charge/conviction, that should prompt you to look into it, but don’t assume that a charge means it’s a Cosby or Weinstein thing. It may be a DA looking to say they were “zero tolerance” and pressed cases like the one I described.

Lots of guys have their lives ruined that way. I think there needs to be some changes to those laws. Heck if I had been with my wife when I was 18 she would’ve been 14 1/2 and I’d be on that list. I think age gap needs to be a bigger factor in those cases.

Let me be clear I would shoot a pedophile in the face and only feel recoil, but I know guys that have been slapped with that label for stupid crap like that.

I think most on the list should be on the list but I have a story too.

A guy I know is a retired police detective. He had a mom call because her underage daughter was involved in a physical relationship with someone. Turned out both were underage and couldn't legally give each other consent. He tried to talk mom out of pressing charges since he would have to charge both kids, including her daughter. Mom was stupid and insisted. He cuffed and arrested the daughter right there in front of the mom.

At that point, it's too late to reverse and both were charged. The boy could afford a good lawyer, the girl couldn't. He got his charges dropped, she ended up pleading to something else and was never put on the list but was very close to being a sex offender for life.

I don't know if we need changes in the laws as much as common sense in the application of the laws. However, in your specific example, in my opinion, it would apply. There is a huge difference between a 14 year old and an 18 year old. Much more so than a 18 year old and a 22 year old. Those few years of maturity make a big difference in intellect, decision making, rationalizing and responsibility.
