Let me start off by saying that I am not in favor of eradicating wolves but I do think that they need to be managed, like any resource. I think that the biggest issue is that most of the people involved in the decision and in forming public opinion on the matter have never seen a wolf track in the wild, let alone a wolf. They only know what they feel in their heart about what makes them feel good, not what the science says or what the numbers say.
My personal belief is that the only way the opinion of those in the metro will change (and that will force the DNR's hand) is for them to experience wolves first hand. They want wolves restored to their entire historic and I think that we should start with a reintroduction plan to get them back into the regional parks in the 7 county metro area.
I saw a pair of wolf tracks traveling together on the north pool Carlos Avery two weeks ago. I talked with a friend today and he saw two single sets of wolf track in two different areas of Carlos Avery west of 35. Neither have not heard of any escapees from the wolf farm near Stacy. I saw a set of wolf tracks between north and south pool 6 years ago. St Croix to Sunrise river seems to be a dispersal route. Northern Chisago county has no shortage of wolves.
Help yourself.

Back in the 90’s I was down southwest of Buffalo in a creek bottom area, frozen, and had a wolf come right on in to me and the partner I was with.

Part of our problem in Minnesota is our Lt governor Flanigan. She's part Chippewa and they believe wolves are relatives. And since gov Walz couldnt care less about hunting or trapping, he's likely to honor her beliefs and do what he can to not have a wolf season any time soon. And since he's a liberal, emotions come before science on outdoor issues. Our DNR has become an absolute joke. To say we only have 2500 wolves is an insult to intelligence. They said we had that many back in the mid 90's, and anybody that spends any time in the outdoors knows there are FAR more wolves now than back than 25 years ago and its not even close. Of course there are FAR more wolves now. Back then, when I attended a meeting with the DNR they said there were an estimated number of 3,300 wolves. With hardly anything since the 90s to reduce their populations, the DNR expects us to believe there are less? There are so many not only do they kill a huge population of deer, but they boldly come into homeowner's yards and kill pets. Some areas of the state it's not safe to let your pet out without supervision.

A friend of mine runs coyotes with Walkers. He said they have been surprised at how far south the wolves are showing up. He feels an expanding population is causing this.
The other thing in MN is that the pro-wolf people who wear blinders threaten lawsuits every time delisting is mentioned. They are at every meeting the DNR sets up. The DNR fears them more than the sportsmen that attend these meetings.

It's hard to justify a governor and attorney general that send law enforcement to shut down churches, barbershops, restaurants, bars, etc. But, let rioters, BLM, and Antifa burn down cities.
