The difference is Caven's test everything and re test before they release anything they build, sorry to burst your bubble Duke lover's but this new trap was being tested long before the Duke 650 was released.I'm sure the Duke 650 is a decent foothold, but it's not close to the quality MB footholds are.If i was a long liner running coon ,mink, yes i would use Duke's 1 1/2 coils, coons double jawed 1 1/2's,coon and mink are not coyotes.

I would say the wolf fights /bites the trap more than a bear, the bear uses it's power to pull out. The only experience I have with a sizable canine fighting my trap is coyote and the teeth don't hold up well against steel. I'll admit I'm speaking from ignorance because I have no experience trapping wolves but I find it hard to believe a wolf is going to test a trap more than a bear four times its size.

I sure hope they offer a closed jaw version for those of us that realize that not every catch is a high ankle catch and we want that toe caught coyote or fox waiting for us when we get there. I run 3 lb pan tension and bed solid and trappers are lying to you if they tell you that they have never had a toe catch (Although if they run offsets they might have pulled out). The other issue for me is what the pan is catching on. If they cast the tab onto the jaw then I am in but if they try to weld it on then I am way out. Welding to cast doesn't work. At least not for long.
Schmattz When I looked at the picture, it "looks like" there are tabs on both jaws. Just a guess, but I don't think MTP would weld a tab to both jaws. I hope it's cast as well.

I better save my money. I was going to finally trade out the last of my Bridger 1.65s for MB550s so all my traps are the same. Looks like I’ll have to try out the new MBs.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

Ya I was going to do that with my bridger #2 ,dogless. But this thread keeps popping up. If they are priced the same well I will be to weak to resist.

Sounds like production wont start until this fall, which kinda puts a damper unless its very early fall. Have to get some for the year after.

Name a commonly trapped animal that you would want to hold, that the MB trap is not beefy enough for? Never seen nor heard of any deficiencies with any of their products. In my opinion a trap doesn’t have to weigh 4 lbs to get the job done. Only bent frame on an MB was due to a tractor and hay wagon on my line. I surely can’t blame them for my mistake in placement. Lots of guys would love to see an actual wolf trap from them and not just a modified beaver trap with a small, for wolves, jaw spread. A true 8.5" or 9" spread that comes up through crusty snow and frozen ground would be well received. Especially at a fair price point. +2 Guys, it isn't that the other traps won't hold a wolf if well caught, it is that wolf trapping is a serious waiting game and usually dealing with bad weather/conditions. When it might be weeks before the wolves come back by the trap you want a trap that is hard to freeze down and will come up through the crust or frozen ground without you having to rebed it every couple checks, leaving your scent around and disturbing your set. 750s will hold a wolf fine if they grab him, heck I use 650s for coyotes because I know if a wolf steps in one he'll be there when I get there. But 750s are notorious here for freezing down and just don't have the oomph to come up fast through the crust. Also the big jawspread isn't so much to fit the wolf's paw inside of, it is so when it snows eight inches over your trap and the wolf steps down on the snow compressing it and dropping the pan it still grabs him over the pad, not by a toe or not at all.

Are there enough wolf trappers to even warrant a special trap? This is not a wolf trap.It was designed for coyotes.

I like the design a bit more jaw spread for snowy co editions but that's about it. Will see how it treats a foot on extended checks. Can 't wait to give them a whirl
