You got that right, you can not get the time you spent back either.

I took a County Commissioner to small claims. He did not show and I was awarded the judgement. Local sherrifs department would not deliver the judgement. Said they could not find him. Finally heard from him. He said take him to court. He wanted a jury trial. My legal cost would have exceeded the judgement I won.

If you have an issue with a person or firm for a small amount you can use the pressure of small claims court to get them to respond. Many times they settle as they don't want their business name in the media for what may be very minor to them but they are not willing to own up to their obligation.

If the person owns anything of value, real estate, etc., you get awarded the judgement you can then place a lien on their property. Then if they ever want to sell the property or if they die you get your money. Eventually you will get what you’re owed, one way or another. If they don’t have anything and don’t have any money, well then you’re just and small claims court was a waste of your time.
