Nice looking traps

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Those look real clean. Does Victor still make those?

They are strong. Paws-I-Trip pans and dogs added make the undersprung traps quite a bit more capable and user friendly. I have a bit of experience with the 14’s, 4’s, and 13’s. Caught a few handful of wolverine, beaver, and otter with them. They work well, but hold poorly for a dry land trap. In the water with drowning set ups they work well.

PIT pans are another good improvement to those traps.

Can you get them back to collector condition if you add pit pans?

Are those cast jaws?? I used them as some of my first coyote traps but unmodified. I found they had to lift a lot of dirt to close seemed slow also like a lot of the old pans and dogs lots of play. I welded teeth to them and loved them for water traps

I never tried and never considered them a collector item but don't see why not if you remove the PIT pans and put the originals back on..

Yes you can if you use a #3Vic dsl pit bracket. You just cut 3\16" of the pit bracket where it meets the base.
I think it's a better set up than that little weld on bracket the jump pits come with

Aiyiyi!Never seen jumps modified to that extent!I bought some no.4 jumps off Trap Shed awhile back that the seller had laminated or PIT PANNED them.I've used them on coyote and cats, they were all right, but I really liked them for beaver.Great water trap. Some guys complained about sprung traps when using them but I never had that problem.

As you can see my pan is a bit off center. But I don't think a beavers front foot can tell

The bracket

I could have taken a little more off the bracket, but I think this will work
Does this answer your question 330?

Nice job but the last thing I would do with any jump Is make It offset.
Once you do anything to the original trap It loses It's collector value. Even If you clean them up they loose value as a collector trap.

There's not much value for #3 or #4 jumps on the collector market. I would guesstimate many thousands of them still in use or in active trapper possesion.

I agree. It would have to be shiny mint new to have any collector value at all.

The prices on the jumps are all.over the place. You can expect to pay around $10 average for decent user traps,I have seen $12-$15 for those with the factory shine still on.And then you have instances like one I was involved in a few years ago,I was at a dealer and he had a couple of totes full of no.4 jumps and No.44 Blake and Lamb undersprings.I asked him what he wanted for them and he says $6 apiece, get them out of here.Apparently he bought a bunch and couldn't find anybody to take them off his hands so I did.A lot of today's trappers are after MB750's or similiar, they don't want anything to do with old jump traps.

I've heard it all... They're slow... They don't get a good hold... Etc...

Don't get your hand in one. Trust me.

The biggest negative is that replacement parts, especially springs, are virtually non-existent. A fellow might make a couple bucks if he could market replacement springs for them.

Yeah, basically when the leaf spring gets weak you're done. There was a time places like Sterling Fur carried factory replacement parts but that dried up years ago.A few years back I asked Sleepy Creek if there was ever a chance they'd bring back the jump. They replied the deceased owner had different ideas about what to try next and Jumps were mentioned. When he died and the business was handed down I guess there was no interest in trying a new (old) trap design.Actually the design when compared to modern coil springs is pretty archaic, but they accounted for a lot of fur for the 80 years or so they were manufactured.I know they added a lot of fur to my shed.

Use some sort of wedge up under the end of the spring above the trap base by the chain.
