Keep the 870, lose the long barrel, and then buy other barrels. Good old 870s are bulletproof, as were mossbergs 835s. Never get rid of a proven tool unless you need to. Good easy scatterguns, or sluggers will be useful i feel.

Trapdog1 I like the way you think. I wish that was in the cards. I haven't even looked at whats out there for semi's, maybe that should be my first step. I don't expect guns to be any more available anytime soon. Normally I would say never sell a gun but if finances are such sell it, through in another $500 if that’s possible and use the money to truly upgrade. Buy one that will be your last one

My wife and I have a rule. We don’t sell guns, we only buy them.

I would take your cash and if the dealer won't give you fair trade in on the 870 wingmaster then pay for the new gun then sell the old.
the market for sale is as good as it gets , however the 870 long barrel without choke tubes probably won't bring as much as if it had a shorter barrel right now.
clean it up real nice before you go to sell to get top dollar
the issue is likely going to be finding the new gun in stock some place , if you do buy it.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

You can pick up the Stoeger M3000 for less than $600.
Moosetrot Just bought one right at Christmas time during holiday sale for $399 after mail in rebate.

pump shotguns under 450 have been sold out since June
when new gun owners got that first stimulus they heard a pump gun was a good value and good all around gun they bought them all up at every big box store in WI
Fleet farm the last 3 times I have been there has had almost nothing for pump guns , the couple they had had long barrels and price tags over over 400
they had a couple over under and a few 410
steel and #8 shot have been the only thing on the shelf for ammo for them
