I built one for my first couple then I tried using wire hooks.
I burnt the trough and have never went back.

This guy is using the wires like I do.
I have done over 500 now and would never use a trough again. The cool this is if needed you can attach the wires to your tailgate and skin in the field if needed.

Yep the wire or cord system with some large fish hooks works good, Just file or crush down the barbs on the hooks.

I start them in a cradle and now case skin on a gambrel. Skinning takes a bit longer but fleshing is way quicker

No trough for me, 55 gal barrel is right height, I can move around it if needed and can pull over the edge in places.

I always just use the truck tailgate-maybe explain what the advantage of a trough is? Just trying to learn here not being a smart arse-its an actual question.

The trough is useful for holding the beaver in a position most convenient for skinning; especially "clean skinning". You actually need to try one to realize the benefit they provide.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

That may be true If your clean skinning. But I don't see any value In a trough when It comes to rough skinning.

Was a fella on here, username was something like Family trapper? He had a great video showing how he used the wire and some bent nails for his beaver skinning. Also showed a cool way to use a sharpened shovel for skinning.
