I've only got about 8 traps out a mile and a half from home, and with kids and a demanding job it can be a challenge to run the line every morning. Out and back is about a half hour but if I have a catch that can take another half hour till I dispatch the animal, get it home, clean up, etc. There's other places I'd like to trap but I don't know how I'd do it. How much time and distance do you put into your lines daily?

I got 12 snares and 6 dps on one 300 acre farm a mile from house
12 snares and 6 dps on another 340 acre farm 7 miles from house
Then 6 dps and 4 foot holds on a smaller track 2 miles from that the a mile from that one I have a dozen dps on another. Just running line with no catches takes me hour and 45 minutes. With multiple catches it has taken me 3 hours total . I work 2nd shift so that helps I run line as soon as I wake up

Not much this year,I got 3 short lines in different areas I check one line once a week and the other two closer ones about twice a week.About an hour and a half to run the 2 close lines, including travel to and from, and about same to check the other one including there and back. Its a bit further out.

Out of the 3 lines I have about 20 marten boxes and 2 jackpots with about 8 trail snares on foot trails from the snowmachine trail into the marten boxes.

Normally in winter I would run 3 lines that I would check once a week, and take about 6 hours to run each with 8 or 10 jackpots and about 80 marten boxes total.
With the raw marten prices quite low now I wont supply them in big numbers for someone else to make big money on.

My beaver line in the fall took me about 3 hours to run, check, and re set including there and back.

I'm also a mini-liner, I have a dozen or so sets in a 6 mi (round trip) loop...if I have nothing it takes about 20-30 minutes, if I land something its longer. My son traps around our house here, and [to be honest] I enjoy him doing better than me, although he's in a rough patch and I'm doing pretty good...what's a guy to do?

About 3 hours to set everything then only 10-35 minute checks

Just once a week? Here in PA we are required to check every 36 hours.

All my sets are lethal, and would be a waste of time and money checking empty traps if checking more than that.
Even in the south there is no time requirement to check lethal sets. The only stipulation is that its illegal to let fur spoil-not an issue in winter.

Ummmm, I beg to differ...here in KS one has to check every trap once, in every 24 hr period. I'm not trying to start a p[$$[¥9 contest, just saying some of our regs are different.

Depends on the catch rate. About 1.5-2 hours before work.

This year I was trapping 3 days a week and was out for 9 hours each check. Out in the bush in the dark had it’s scary moments and really hoping I don’t end up doing that again next year.
Kinda glad it’s over.
I don’t know how many traps I had out at one time, but I’d say at the most I had out was about 50 Marten/Fisher traps, 20 footholds for wolf, and 200 snares.

5 hours for cat traps 45 mile drive one way and hike 5 draws then check a handful of sets closer to the house on the way back hike draw number 6 then done. Running way less trap at this time of the year.

So is it a safe bet that many of you guys are either retired, or using vacation to trap?

Roughly 6 miles north and south and 3 miles east this year. 1-1.5 hours a day. Silver spoon in my mouth the whole way. Sorry couldn’t resist the opportunity

Self-employed, so I make sure I have time to trap and hunt.
