I use a cubby set that is built around a pice of hardware cloth shoved in to the ground shaped like a rainbow and cover it up good i use beaver meat as bait and i use a a big foothold trap preferably #3 longspring with expanda pan than i offset the trap by 3-6 inches to the right 6 inches back and i use dunlaps hellfire as lure with bobcat all call and bobcat urine if you set on sign in good location you will take lots of bobcats but dont forget your flaggin i set it 5 foot in front of the cubby so he has to be aligned with the cubbys opening when he enters my sets

I use the smaller steel barrels here for a cubby landowners let me stash them in the woods during the summer. My #1 producers.

Plastic culvert pieces will work also lighter easier to carry.

Up north in the snow country I like a big cubby for eye appeal,I set up the cubby with traps at both ends of the open ends 2-3 'out,a little bit like blind setting. Then I blind set around the cubby any where from 10 to 30',you can make your own pinch points or use a natural pinched point. Most of my bobcat locations will have 4 to 6 traps around the cubby location or 2 footholds and snare's around the cubby, hope this helps,if you blind set around the cat location it does'nt have to commit to the set, catch them looking or leaving.

I like the set Clint Locklear uses in his cat collector video. Basically a trench set with bait or eye appeal in the back with sticks, brush, dirt built up on the side to funnel them in front and over the trap. Keep trap back about 2ft. Hang a feather or something shiny from a branch across from the set to catch eye appeal from a distance. Ive had really good luck with this set. Caught a cat night before last in one. Really good results. [Linked Image]

I guess I’m the odd man out. I didn’t have anything flashy. No cubbies. No barrels. Caught 12 in about two weeks time. Standard coyote dirthole with bait and quality urine. No lure.

That being said if I’m only killing cats I’ll do a lot of the things mentioned above. Do I need to? Probably not.

I'd be out 2 I have enough gear to cart around with out barrels or culvert pipes.

My best set is the one that catches a big spotted tom but I am partial to the walk thru and rub sets. Gotta go with DLS to do it right.

The barrels stay in the draws, you place them in the summer then leave them there. LOL Sherpas don’t come cheap you don’t want to over use them. We could do dirt holes here but that would be a mess to find in the snow drifts we get the barrels serve several jobs and is a attracter in itself.

Where should urine be placed at a bobcat set?

Everything is placed to force the animal to step on the trap or walk through a snare! Really is that simple. On a walk through set the urine would go on both side's of the trap.

Snares are the best sets for cats-very humane, quick dispatch, allow for extended checks which allows you to run more sets over more ground, unaffected by the elements, and its not uncommon to catch a bunch at once per set.

I have never made a bobcat set. Coyote sets seem to work just fine. Bobcats are like coons and possums, make your best coyote set and they’ll clog it up. Did try the squeaker last year over some Pipe Dream Sets and connected several times.
I made a set as a joke that I knew the manager would see while driving and caught a coyote. If anything I figured maybe a cat would be stupid enough to look it over. It was two dirt holes for eyes. A trap where the nose would be with part of the pan exposed in the shape of a nose. Used pebbles to make a smiley face and small sticks as eyebrows. Even hung a turkey feather above it mainly so the manager would see it, lol. He sent me a video when he rode through one morning before I did and said your smiley set caught a coyote.
I say every year I’m going to make a specific bobcat set, but to be honest it just looks to time consuming.

I wish. I've seen where they walked by sets and never broke stride.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

If you see tracks here, rare in leaves or pine straw, or see one cross the road, then set a trap and he’ll be there the next day or within the next couple of days. Guess it’s like coyotes and has to do with densities.
