I think that's how you spell it. He was a big coon trapper from Iowa. Haven't seen him on here in a while.

Alot trappers take season off, good idea unless ok with loosing lots money, start get older, no idea how long keep or able trap, in my spare time, I have nothing really worthwhile for hobbies so I trap, but figgure catch an value, noway worth it, prices just way to low, all gas spent, an now huge shop repair bill paid

He trapped for money. Not much money in coon. Probably has slowed done. I remember the posts between him and Beav about Groeny. Dave sold to Groeny and Beav sold to NAFA. Groeny is still buying and NAFA is gone.

Groeny rocks!!!! Lol

I saw a few of Dave's demos over the years, really dedicated and perfected his river system. He would stash trolling motor batteries along the way to swap out for his boat and drop off a pile of coon for his wife to pick-up along the line. Just a genuine unassuming guy that piles up the coon.

He is on a long list of big number coon guys in IA. Although I disagreed with Dave on a lot of things we must have both agreed that trapping a thousand coon would only cost you $$$. It would have been a great year to trap a thousand or two u just wanted to reach a goal because no longliner in their right mind would do it for the Benjamins. It costs thousands to run a season and with mink down in price there is just no money to be made. I used to pay for my fuel on the 200 plus mink I would catch while coon trapping. They sell for a couple bucks each at the last sale. Think of all of us staying home as a gift to any future market. Coon numbers will be the lowest harvest in my lifetime this year and believe it or not the pipeline is getting cleared out. Maybe next year we could see an uptick in prices but even if you double the averages from this season it will be hard for a guy to make a profit. Just my .02 take it or leave it. Hopefully Dave is fishing or working for some real money. LLL

I heard from Dave this fall. He was still planning on hitting the coon hard. Its in his blood! That being said, have not heard from him since so have no idea if he ended up trapping or not. Hope he's doing good.

LLTrapper- How did you enjoy the "fall off"...? Did you get in more hunting, fishing, and maybe more charitable church work...?

Yes. All of the above. I also enjoyed a gall bladder surgery in December. LOL. I actually saved money not spending all it takes to produce a large catch as well as my hands and arms have never felt better this time of year. Usually I would spend all of February finishing 1000 plus coon. Going fishing instead and honestly do not care if I skin or finish another coon ever as long as they are worth 5 bucks. LLL

Dave never had to hide behind some made up name and I’m pretty sure that hasn’t changed. He’s probably real busy.

You are incorrect. Coonman is not Dave P. I have seen pictures and others know him. He is a one of a kind. LLL

I saw a great video of him fleshing a coon in two minutes. I followed his methods, but never mastered it the way he has. But, I was definitely down to a little under 5 minutes. He knows his stuff when it comes to coon.
