Ok so question guys. Say you wanna trap coon for what ever reason but your somewhere where there not just eveywhere . You know some of these places you can set a do down at the creek and get a coon Evey night places like that .I've been told alot about going to water trapping hard woods and what not but personally the only thing that's been able to work good for me is to hang up a deer feeder put a camera on it and gang set around it when theirs alot of coon visiting. I have no clue why but I can but a $50 rotor feeder in a random tree and have 10coon visiting within a week or two in the same area I couldn't find any sign. It's like they hear that thing go off and just appear out if the found or something.I've found I can make my money back off the $7 bag of corn and $10 worth of gas pretty easy compared to trying it the traditional way. Seriously last year I tried scouting, setting hard woods, finding sigh, setting trail and yeeeaahh didn't work out too well.
So with that being said what tricks y'all got ?
Side note they also seem to find any of my hog feeders baited with sour corn within the first night or two so that's something as well.

East KS is farm country. Corn fields, Big ones. Big timber on field edges. Lots of creeks with corn fields up against them. Plenty of hickory and acorns too. Don't need feeders here. Guys that put them out for deer do feed a lot of coons though. Pens with calves being fed hay and grain till they are sold to feedlots, or feedlots, all have coon trouble also. If you can only find coons with deer feeders you dont have a lot of coons.

I personally like buildings with coon sign inside. A guy can clean em out quick and move on. Easy trapping. Of course we cant use feeders cause its science that deer only spread disease at feeders.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Get you a kitty litter bucket. Drill 1/2 in holes around 3 sides 1 inch from bottom. Wire it to a tree and fill with cheap Walmart dog food. Be sure to wire lid shut. Wait one week and gang set it for 3 nights . Re bait it. Wait 4-5 days and gang set it again for 3-4 nights. You do pretty good. !!!

Most probably because in MS you can't go more than 1/4 mile without finding them spin cast feeders. I think they just migrate around them waiting for free groceries.

" Say you wanna trap coon for what ever reason but your somewhere where there not just eveywhere ." Here it's pretty simple. It really shouldn't matter where you are. They have to do three things to survive and they do them instinctually. Eat, drink, and get in cover. No matter what they don't survive if that happens. Their locations and habits do change based on what time of the fall/winter it is.

Also with my experience with feeders is once a single coon finds it. It won't take long for the 10 to appear. Trail cameras when I was baiting pretty much told the story. They make noise and get excited when they find food. Their friends know what that sounds like. If you get them to fight at a feeder even better.

Say you think the coon floats close to the banks would be a good idea

Haven't had near as much luck doing that as with the spin cast feeder. That being said once I get them in the area with the spin cast I can set one of those but not before

den trees are my only trick
once you find them you will find where they keep coming to nearly every year

put that trap so that they can't not see when they come out of the tree 3-4 dp's for a good tree you may not get that many but you will not know unless you set them.

it takes a lot of scouting , trees with rub marks and fresh scat are golden for coon

feeders might be easier

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Not sure where in Amite Co. you are but I'm off of 33 HWY between Gloster and Roxie off of Bunkley Rd. I live on the Homochitto River its one of my property line boundaries.

I found this year in my area, the coon were few and far in between. I think there may be some disease setting in from lack of hunting and trapping. I ended up with 9, but I had to work for those.
