No reason it shouldn't work. I have 2 electric winches and one hand winch and they all work great.
WS Thank you.

I have amsteel 7/16 on my 10,000 lb bumper winch. Pretty sure it’s rated at twice my winch rating. The winch is on a 75 1ton 4x4 dodge dually. I have yanked the heck out of it pulling logs and a few vehicles. I was worried about durability but so far it’s holding up well, been on there about 4 years. One thing I like is it winds up on the winch way better than cable and doesn’t kink. Not real sure about using it on a saw winch but don’t see why you couldn’t. It’s just cable being replaced by rope, right? May I ask what you have on the end to make attachment to? I have read that you can tie knots in the Amsteel if needed. Expectation of strength of a knot should be that it would diminish the strength by up to 50%. Still acceptable for many field applications.

Wouldn't splicing in a metal hook preserve the strength of the Amsteel?

Wouldn't splicing in a metal hook preserve the strength of the Amsteel? Probably to a small degree. I am leaning towards splicing an eye at the end and using the soft shackles to make attachments. The floating characteristics of the line seems too highly valuable for my needs to add the hook.

Are you talking about a capstan winch ? Is so I can tell first hand pulling a moose out of a bog this year we had to use some nylon style rope with the winch rope. First it melts if you get much slippage and 2 it smacks the crap out of your fingers when is slips off the spool under a load.

Don't knot the Amsteel rope. there are lots of videos on youtube how to splice it.

M M , I have some for backing on the boat anchor winch and have never had a problem with it. I think what I have is neutral buoyancy. Lack of stretch is not a plus in my application Thank you 3F’s. The Comm Fish guys I asks says the stuff is good to go. They says treat it like you would any cable on a winch.
