But other than that and the seemingly cheaper steel its made out of it is almost Identical to the Bridger. Oh...and it has a small dirt gap at the base of the jaws. The Bridgers dont have a gap but the jaws create a dirt slot due to the jaw design cut.

I had to call Bill and see what was going on. And they are making a #2 square jawed dog less. He said they missed the boat by getting them out on the market so late. I just might have to look Into getting some.

I bought 4 of them to try, but can't really make a judgement on them. As luck would have it only caught a couple grinners in them, seems like a decent trap overall though. What adjustment is needed ? Pan tension?

Maybe I`m missing something. The reason I like the paws i trip pans with the ss dogs is so I NEVER have to mess with another bolt and nut on a trap again.I will admit that I have never tried the dogless traps but do they come louse after a catch like the older dog and pan traps? No messing with bolts or nuts on dogless either. You want the pan to free fall when not under tension.

I don't think you would be able to patented a trap. Traps have been copied since the first trap was hammered out In some black smith shop 200 years ago.. You might be able to patented a part of a trap like the trigger On a DP but the whole trap not a chance.

When the original Lil Grizz DP came out, it was patented for 10 years (don't know if that's accurate)? Once the patent ran out, that's when you saw everyone come out of the woodwork with more affordable DPs.

No messing with bolts or nuts on dogless either. You want the pan to free fall when not under tension. Not for me. The pan assembly on the Bridger and Duke dogless will need a little tweaking out of the box. Tighten the pan nut tight, then back it off so the pan holds only it own weight. That will be close to a couple pounds of tension measured in pan center. Then loosen the nut holding the adjustable/sliding pan assembly. Tap the assembly from the end until the pieces of flat stock are even and then tighten the nut. The pan should be close to level and the trap is ready to go . Takes about 5 min per trap. I do this with trap in a vice.

My question Swamp Wolf is after a catch does the pan become floppy and need adjusted again? Not very often, but occasionally you may have one or 2 that get too loose. Pan tension is a personal preference so many may not worry much about it. I carry two nut drivers that fit the pan bolt and nut in my trap bag. I have 11 dozen Bridger 2 dogless and have had them all out a few times. Adjusted about 3 or 4 each time during those lines.

I read the patent on the little grizz and I think the only thing that was patented was that bar In the mouth of the trap. The black hole mole trap which came out first looks exactly like a little grizz.
