They should throw the book at him. Not necessarily because he traded in sturgeon eggs, but because he used his position as a government agent for cover of alleged illegal acts.

Personally I don't see a problem with commercial trade in wildlife products as long as it is done in a regulated way; we are after all fur trappers aren't we.
So the commercial use of sturgeon eggs really shouldn't be a problem, it's much better than wasting them. I hate the excuse used by many departments that "if we allow the commercialization of wildlife it will just encourage illegal activity". Hogwash!

Idaho is a great example of one of the few States that allows the sale of things like bear gal bladders. Idaho has lots of black bears and I really doubt that the sale of bear parts in Idaho has resulted in rampant poaching of bears.
