Danny I'm like you. I always carry survival items both in my truck and in my backpack. Snacks lighters knives tp extra socks and maybe a coat along with e blanket and water are in my backpack.

How many stories have we all read or heard of someone going for a quick hike which landed up being a survival situation and most of the time they are unprepared even for a quick hike/ walk?

Or their vehicle gets stuck or breakdown which turns into a survival situation?

PAskinner , been awhile since I backpacked. I still took what I needed. Pup tent, waterproof matches, etc. I make waterproof matchs. Learned it in boy scouts. just dip strike anywhere matches in melted paraffin. scrape the wax off the head when your ready tolight one. they burn longer too. Those storm proof matchs you can buy now are sure nice.

survival is a 90% mental/physical game. seems the more things folks have for survival the less mentally/physically preped they are.

what is not a ridiculous item is a sleeping bag in the back seat or a aluminum #10 scoop shovel that and 30 feet of tow strap will get you out of a lot of situations
