Found a Rolex watch in a box of stuff Dad had put up. Figured this might be a good thing lol took it to a jewelry guy. Took him 15 seconds looking at it to tell me it's a fake, now i am really wishing dad could tell me the story on it.

Some of the better quality fake rolexes are still worth thousands of dollars. There's been some valuable fakes on Antiques Road Show. Your feelings maybe should only be lightly bruised.

upkeep cost on. 3 to 600 dollars for cleaning and looking
over. In the 70's I bought them. Now I just look at the cell
phone. I sold one years ago. For the gold filled back. Would
have been worth much more now.

I'd ask another jeweler or two before throwing it away.

Can't put a price on your dad's memories. Look at the watch and think of him.......priceless

There are probably more counterfeit Rolex® than Cohiba® cigars.

A Italian salesman that I knew was talkin to me and a coworker. He was bragging about the great deal he got on a Rolex® in Egypt. The coworker asked to take a look at it. He then handed it back without saying anything ,but, "nice".

My coworker later told me that the night before on Italian TV, he had watched a program about the counterfeits, and how to identify them. The one he saw was a fake.

Got his watch put up, this one must not have meant any thing to him, was in a box of junk. Sure do wish he could
Tell me if was something he picked up in Thailand or Vietnam. Shoot might be some poker winnings lol or he figured out he got took buying it and just didn't want to tell about it.

Cotton... one way to spot a fake is by seeing if the second hand "sweeps" from one second to the next or "ticks" from second to second.

If t moves around the dial in a steady sweeping motion, it's a good sign. The weight of the watch is another way to tell.Rolex watches have some heft to them.

About 50:years ago, my brother sent me a Rolex... looks just like an Oyster model, but very light and a "ticking" second hand.... $23.00.

Be careful, as if your watch sweeps from second to second, it's probably the real deal!

In either case, you've got a great gift from your Dad. My Dad was a great guy, but we were poor, due to his gambling issues, and the real only thing I have from him is a canceled check to pay for his burial.

He was a great guy with a demon! I consider myself fortunate however, as I had friends who didn't have a Dad around the house.

Some of the fakes are battery operated. Easy to spot them by the movement of the second hand.
