Just in case anyone isn't aware ammo prices are up too. Gas is up from $2.86 yesterday to $2.93 today. Lowest grade.

Log prices are low, no correlation. Many loggers have parked their equipment(if they can afford to). Not so on the west coast, many species of timber have nearly doubled in price in the past few months. See my post on page one of this thread.

$4 by the fall with this idiot in office. That's if he lasts that long. Seeing some major slippage and they can't pretend forever.

i know a repo guy , for the past year he has been re prepossessing logging equipment You don't see much of that around here. When times get hard in the woods locally, a lot of equipment falls to a rash of spontaneous combustion.

Also if anyone hasn't been paying attention go buy some copper, aluminum or steel and let us know how the price of those are doing. Beans and corn are in lofty territory as well.

Hardwood and softwood log prices have not totally recovered from the 2008 crash. However lumber , OSB, plywood, prices are way up and increasing. The loggers are barely braking even but The end processors ,(sawmills, plywood mills, lumber yards, etc,)are always the ones making the money. Always the same

The loggers are barely braking even but The end processors ,(sawmills, plywood mills, lumber yards, etc,)are always the ones making the money. I worked for Louisiana-Pacific for five years. The plant turned a profit one of the five years I worked there. They recently announced they are doing away with OSB production and are investing 100+ million dollars in our local plant in new equipment to manufacture siding. Too many big producers in the OSB game. It's not the manufacturer making the killing. Not buying it, sounds like fancy book keeping. I’ve spent my life working in the Forest Industry, over 40 years. Started felling timber, logging contractor , procurement Forester, and recently retired Industrial Consultant Forester for one of the largest TIMO’s in the country, based in Jackson, MS.. Just because LP didn’t show a profit 4 out of 5 years does not prove the timber resource end processors are not driving the prices, from stumpage to end product.

I've heard that there is no softwood being imported from Russia. Don't know if that was ever much of a factor, but if so, it could explain some of the price increases.

It doesn't matter if you're buying it or not, LP got out of OSB because it wasn't profitable. We lived under constant threat of the plant being shuttered most of the time I worked there. Rather than continue taking a loss on OSB, they decided to retool the plant and produce a product they hope they can sustain a profit with. I was wrong about the amount of the investment, it's 150 million dollars. https://www.wagmtv.com/2021/02/18/1...na-pacific-houlton-mill-in-new-limerick/

I've heard that there is no softwood being imported from Russia. Don't know if that was ever much of a factor, but if so, it could explain some of the price increases. There are thousands upon thousands of acres of softwood timber in the southern US that aren’t even worth enough to pay the taxes, so I don’t think that plays into it. I would assume they’re not importing any because there’s already excess here.
