I’m looking for information on trapping in Texas. I will be moving there once my house sells, so I want to start getting as much info as I can before I leave. Just basics such as how the seasons work and any restrictions when it comes to what traps/snares are legal. I’m moving from Pennsylvania so I’m not sure how much use I’ll get with some of my bodygrips. So if it’s a better option to sell them before I move, I’d like to know.

Body grips are used by many in Texas as are snares and foot holds. Some choose not to set as many footholds if working a high fence situation. Just big body grips and snares. Might sell the small body grips and get some more 280's and 330's particularly if you get into one of those ranch\fence type situations. Laws are liberal and very reasonable in Texas. Read and learn the regs. well as is with trapping in any new state.

I have a few body grips, but don't use them. Most Texans use body grips for beaver and otter. No season or restrictions on private land, you don't even need a trap tag. You will have to be very careful if you use snares, other than holes under high fences.

Have you decided where in Texas? Big difference between Texarkana, Lubbock, and Brownsville landscapes.

You need to know that you can never vote for all the laws and regs that made PA a place you would leave. Ever! grin

Most Southerns are fine outstanding folks (me)...just don’t bring what you are leaving behind. You come down here, either assimilate or stay there.

I lived there when I was stationed at Hood. Moving back has been one of the biggest mistakes my wife and I made. I’ve been up here for 12 years, and ,other than family, I hate everything up here. Hunting and trapping gives the relief, but it’s hard to say it was a good day duck hunting bc we bagged 3 ducks for 3 hunters. Trapping is still new to me, but I’ve been checked several times in 2 years and got warnings bc feathers become exposed in a hay pile and you can’t have any animal product visible while trapping in this state. That and the people stealing or “rescuing” my catches, I’m over it.

I think that the Texas government should press for money from those who pack up and move from California. Plus a lifetime restriction on voting.

Too many times these people move there and want everything to be like where they came from. All screwed up with more restrictions and laws like their past home.

As far as I'm concerned their no different than the people coming across the southern border.

Houston and Austin has turned very liberal and spreading to the rural area's. We are the last ranch left in the area, the other ranches have been split up into subdivisions.

We are either going to move somewhere else in Texas or to another state.
