This might have been asked before but cannot get it searched. Question. How can these guys and woman on these TV shows like Life Below Zero , Port Redemption , etc obtain ( buy ) land in the wildness in Alaska ? I don’t see how the state of Alaska would let just any one like me go out to Alaska And plop down some cash and buy 20 or 40 acres along a big salmon stream and build a 1000 foot log cabin. If so can some one tell me how much it cost for some this type of land and who I need to to contact to buy it ? I am all in. Buy it leave to my family when I die. Some thing is not adding up to me that state of Alaska allows this. Otherwise everyone would be buying some land in wilderness in Alaska. Thanks. Marty

After living in Alaska in several places and flying a small plane and working virtually everywhere in the state over a period of 27+ years, what you see on "reality" shows on TV is anything but, reality. There are private inholdings scattered throughout the state, just like anywhere else, and you can purchase these from time-to-time. But, what you see on "reality" TV is basically bull-pucky.

There is a vanishingly tiny amount of privately owned land in Alaska. Most especially in rural areas.
There are native land claims that occasionally come up for sale....but not often and they can be very complicated to buy. Every once in a while there might be an old homestead available. But that is even less frequent than a native allotment
The state of Alaska does make some remote land available for purchase every once in a while. Some of it may even be accessible by other than helicopter but most all of it requires a combination of plane and/or boat to access. Most of it is great if you want to raise mosquitoes or muskrats.
The short answer is................forget it unless you are willing to drop 7 figures to buy an existing lodge or you just want a place to enjoy the quiet with no electricity, running water, internet, medical care, year-round access, etc etc etc. On second thought it won't be quiet because of the whine of mosquitoes.
Nevertheless, it still has a lot of rewards.

Jack I second Jack's "bull pucky" description! First mistake the OP made was using the word "reality" in describing those tv shows! Pete

DNR land programsSince you can't do your own research, I doubt you would last in the Bush anyway.

When did land become so expensive there?Has it always been like that in recent times? The state is well over 90% government and tribal land and they aren't selling any. That puts a very high demand on the small amount of private land.

DNR land programsSince you can't do your own research, I doubt you would last in the Bush anyway. Or, just Google "remote land in alaska" and you will find a couple of real estate agencies that list the few parcels that do come up for sale.

I got more Cheechakos buzzing around here than mosquitoes these days.

It's hard for me to believe anyone thinks a reality TV show is reality, except for Eustice being useless.
