One of my sons buddies at work ordered two feeders and 1,000# of protein for one deer he passed on last year. The deer was 5.5 but he wanted to give it one more year seeing how he had already killed one bigger. Everything came in today and they were going to set’em up Friday.
My son was mowing after burning and found the deer in a wet weather hole. All he saw was partial of one side sticking out of the water and waded out to retrieve it. It was the deer his buddy was after. My son is going to get another buddy to clean it up and put on a plaque for him. He scored 153” but was missing about 6” in broken off antlers. Hate to see a deer die like that. I’d much rather see a smiling face holding that rack especially after having a history with the deer.

Could they tell what happened to it?

No idea on the cause. The plantation is next to a major 4 lane highway and the deer was found somewhat close enough that they think it could be from vehicular injuries. I can almost assure it wasn’t poached on the plantation. Cameras and security are quite prevalent as they are on most properties in this area.
There’s a small hole in the head they think could possibly be a puncture wound. When they clean it up they’ll know more about it. The same guy doing that deer did mine and said mine wouldn’t have lived another year. He drained a golf ball amount of puss from a puncture wound in its head from fighting...just part of nature during the rut.

Broken tines = rough fight or vehicle collision. Sux either way.

That base with the spur points likely has some issues with the pedicel...brain abscess at some point.

Bummer. At least the rack was recovered.
