The cost of meat just went up ! And the quality just went down. Montfort will have to move to a panhandle state

Why can't the cattle ranchers just send their cattle to Nebraska, Wyoming, etc to have their fats butchered, like they do now? Kinda like how all the pot smokers head to CO for weed.

We always tried to replace our cows by the time they were 12 years old. I’m not sure where they came up with 20. Crazy. How much would it cost you to feed a cow for 5 years (25% ..of A 20 year life expectancy) ....? So ma'am that steer is 5 yrs old I have a certified State birth certificate....

They OK with slaughtering a human fetus though? Probably don't give it a second thought, do they? But they have no problem killing babies before they’ve lived out a single day of their life. These people are sick and disgusting! At what point will this lunacy end? Yup same people you can bet, so long as we give the stoopid people credibility this crap will no doubt continue but hey, it's not Trump huh lawyer man?
NV Wrangler that is a good point on the horses and burros- If I were to add to the logic or lack of it in their argument, I would say very few cattle have a 20 yr life expectancy. Some of the original breeds like the Braimer, Long Horn, White Park, or Cracker Cow maybe but daggum few of the black or black white face make it much longer than half that. The RWF's will have eye or skin cancer way short of 20 years.
Of course we are dealin with libtards so I will save my dam logic b/c it won't amount to spit

I would bet the cattle in Eastern CO don't fair much better than they do in the Sandhills of Nebraski and they would have short teeth to the point of broken or going to be a broke mouth in their 8th or 9th year.

A meat chicken bred to kill at 6-8 weeks will not be able to walk when it is 2 years old. A pig bred to kill at 300 pounds in a few months time will weigh what in 3 years? And a beef steer fed for 5 years will become an oxen. And have how much fat to trim and toss when slaughtered? The quality of the meat animals lives would go backwards as they will be over weight and beak down, and the quality of the meat will go down as it is too fat, etc. Beef is supposed to age in the cooler room or fridge, not on the hoof.

I will have you know I had a poled hereford live to be 27 with no serious eye problems, she was a rare specimen. Dad and I bought 5 of them heifers together when I was a kid and she was the last. I kept her several years longer than I should have. After Dad passed, I just couldn't let her go due to memories. My brother still laughs at me saying I should have kept every heifer calf that old cow ever had. Generally speaking 12-16 is a long life around here for a cow. I still have a few modely-white faces from the hereford past, but I don't keep hereford anymore for the eye problems you mention. Dad was a third generation hereford man, but I got tired of doctoring eyes and broke the tradition. As for the op, there sure isn't going to be much good steak, fryer rabbits, or fryer chickens raised in Colorado if this happens. Hope yall got a good pressure cooker and crock pot handy.

I raise sheep and won't eat (except as sausage) a 4 year old sheep -- can anyone say mutton? My son just got back into it. Had 5 ewes and picked up a 7 month old Ram from out west. Just had the last pair of twins yesterday. He was planning on Jan lambs...but the wicked heat this summer ,knocked the ram sterile for a cycle. So we have 9 lambs on the ground total.....and not a market lamb in the bunch....all show stuff.....he’s excited !

My daughter just sold two yearling rams today (blue-faced leicester) so she is happy -- most of our lambing was done in december and I am going to ship the first few to auction this weekend (75 +/- lbs) .
