theres nothing wrong with grooney making money its trappers that dont care and if they dont care why not put it to good use and help people that could use the fur in cold weather just might be a good promotion for fur

Us southerners could keep our lower quality fur off the market, but I dont think that will help the northen goods sell better.

If you already got paid for trapping, I wonder if the all handling of those animals just to give them to groeny is worth the effort? Maybe it is?

That little I sold this time was $572. Took me about four 3 hour evenings to scrape and board. Its worth the effort. I dont like throwing away $500 plus.

I care, but wont throw or give away decent pelts that are easy to put up.

Joe,
Did you donate your pelts to have coats made for the needy. If you didnt, then please don't tell me what I should do.

Just watched the GFWC Facebook video from the Perry, Ga stop this morning. Gary bought a lot of beaver and bobcats. Encouraging words about likley uptick in prices next winter.

Thank you Gary and GFWC for providing us southerners with a market that DOESN'T require 1) a cardboard box, 2) a shipping label, 3) a commission, 4) a wait for the check, 5) carpal tunnel syndrome for fleshing and boarding beaver, 6) a fur sewing machine, or 7) another $$ investment in tanning fees.

Just a fair price for the product we have down south.

$35 was top otter here too, but had to be a 2XL or bigger.

Fur quality in the south is strange, even on same property you can get a selection of different grades. 90 miles SOUTH of me the coon grade more semi heavy, about a half. Up here coon run bigger but are ALL coat coon even though the elevation is higher. Bobcats south of me are more spotted, up here they run reddish and few spots.

More otter south of me but better quality pelts up here, fast running creeks that stay cold all summer vs the stagnant beaver swamps to the south of me.

Coyotes up here are more pale and fluffy, few miles south they are darker and wirey.

Basically pelt's here depend on which county you caught them in!

I find it very encouraging he's buying southern coon. And with better otter and rat prices we are seeing the start of an uptick fueled by a drastic shortage of ranch mink.
