Just got back into fleshing this year. Put a few nicks in the beam any tips on smoothing them out. Whole beam or just the nicks? Thanks

A quick sandpaper cupped in your palm on the beam will do it

A little work with a rasp should blend it in. If it's so bad that you can't blend it in, get down to clean wood and fill the gouge with some Bondo and smooth it out.

Usually I just use the sharp side of my knife kinda sorta like a draw knife.

Every couple years I run my little electric disc sander over my board. It is almost impossible to not nick your board up when you get to the end of beaver and coon

I cover mine with epoxy resin every couple years and sand to a glass finish make sure you power wash it good before epoxy coat so you get a good bond.
