I’m looking for what everyone else has used for flooring in there fur shed. I just built a 10x20 shed and I was wanting some kind of durable rubber rolls that I could put in. I figured rubber would make clean up easy if I wanted to wet it down and mop. My only concern is durability and slip resistance. Thoughts?

If anybody has a rubber floor or similar waterproof option I’d love to see pictures, thanks!

Mine was concrete slab. Worked great.

I think a mat you can take out and clean would be better than an actual rubber floor.You may run into some condensation problems and rot underneath a permanent rubber floor..

I put down rubber stall mats. Durable, have some texture for grip and are easy to clean. Also pretty easy to cut with a jig saw for a custom fit, and can easily be removed if wanted.

I use a rubber truck bed liner under the skinning machine where blood gets deep but cover the whole thing with used carpet, even over the mat under the skinner. The carpet gets rolled up and thrown out in the spring and the rubber mat gets hosed off. Any carpet installation place can hook you up with free used carpet. The ones with the padded backs are best for soaking up water and blood.

Good point. I didn’t think about condensation being a problem. I assumed if I bought it in rolls I could keep any water/blood/fat from getting underneath.

My current fur shed has a plywood floor. I put down large sheets of cardboard in the skinning/fleshing area. The cardboard that storm doors come in are about 6' x 7' when opened up and that is mostly what I use (I install a lot of storm doors).

I'm building a new shed and was thinking about putting some glue-down sheet vinyl in it.

I have concrete floors with a drain. I use cardboard appliance boxes like Lugnut described. I keep the floor around my skinning machine lined with cardboard, burn it when it gets nasty.

I have concrete with a floor drain and where I skin and flesh I have a bed liner mat with a bar pad over it. I use a wood frame and have saw dust in it right under where I skin and flesh. A couple times a season put new saw dust in and hose off the truck bed mat and bar mat. Once a year hose the floor off and clean out dust cleanest shop floor you ever saw.

If you work for or know a business that gets a lot of boxes in, id hit them up. Its free and you can burn or use it in the garden next spring as mulch. Might even check your local recylcing/salvage plant if they take cardboard as it costs them more to send it out than what they get for it.

I use cardboard a few years but it gets wet then tears up and becomes a tripping hazard. I hated it. Give the carpet a try, I know you'll like it.

I do the same as ADC. Have carpet under my skinning machine and under my pvc beam. When it gets nasty, it gets burned and new pieces put down. I usually know someone that's replacing carpet in their house, cut it into 6x6 ft pieces and roll up and put in corner until I need it.

My barn is concrete floor but I skin and flesh upstairs - plywood floor. hopefully this year will put down some vinyl flooring and then will use either used carpet or rubber mats on top.

Mine is plywood do some skinning and the stretching and drying in the shop with concrete floor, but still do all my fleshing in the old fur shed with the plywood floor. I get end runs or partial rolls of paper from the local paper mill that have flaws in them. It is plastic coated on one side like freezer paper but as thick and stiff as poster board. No idea what it is actually made and sold for, but it works great to put down on the floor, waterproof, nothing sticks to it, and at the end of the season I take it up and toss it, use new next year. It is a little slick when wet though. If you were looking for a permanent flooring, I would say possibly linoleum, easy to put down, moppable, and if you get the textured stuff it should have some traction wet, the smooth stuff wouldn't have dips for blood and gunk to settle in though.

Even in the shop with the concrete floor I throw down a chunk of that paper when skinning, so I don't get blood on the floor to clean up.

if you have plywood the first thing I would do is get a paint on it you can add a texture if you like to make it more non slip ,but get it sealed


I use cardboard on my half busted up concrete garage floor for skinning then burn it , I will never be the high volume skinner ADC is carpet you throw away is probably a good way to go


rubber mats where you stand would be fine , just get that floor sealed up with a floor and deck type paint , if you have plywood or wood currently.

I have cement and I got some rubber cattle mats at TSC and put them down, then a carpet scrap and cardboard. When I have a lot of blood I throw some borax on it and let it dry. Burn the cardboard after the season and maybe the carpet if it's bad. Rubber mats could be hosed off but I have not had to do that. Kind of nice standing on those mats instead of hard concrete.

I use cardboard and tape the joints with guerrilla tape. cures the tripping problem.

Hmmm, I have a short bed mat and long bed mat, tried selling them no luck, I use cardboard, I guess rubber would work too
