Want to share my new favorite inlay. Maple inlayed in Mahogany on a cedar box. My Toms' are wound tight when they play. Good luck turkey hunters!

Forgot my headlamp and cushion, but I ain't no quitter. Plopped down in the mud on the edge of a misty fog covered field and waited to hear a gobble. Sure enough a tom fired up and I gave a few responses. He started going off like crazy, but when it sounded like he was close to the edge of the woods he shut up. I shut up and waited. When he gobbled again, he was 150 yards away on the opposite side of the field, but out in the open. I gave a few light calls to make sure he was seeing my jake/hen setup. He started working his way in, but stopped about 60 yards out on a little mound and stayed there. I was about to try some purring, when a real hen walked up right next to me and started calling for me. He came in to 15 yards and I dropped him cold. [Linked Image]

Kip makes an awesome call.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Beautiful calls, each unique . Among the most beautiful I've seen.

Well done, Kip, as always.

I have been using both my box calls , having fun with the turkeys who visit the yard. They answer and the young males display every time they hear the call .

Ill never forget the time I had just received your call in the mail. It wasn't 20 minutes out of the package, I heard an older wary male gobble in the distance, and your call brought him right in . He hung up at the tree line , before the open meadow , thanks to you explaining how I could have still brought him into the open meadow , I learned !

It was all fun, though !

We need to hear about this calling them into the open. grin

I was gutting plaster and lathe from 1897 balloon frame house
and found an odd to the build corner nailer wood specie.
I threw it aside.
CB showed up and I asked what's that petrified wood?
He said oak dummie.

I gave it to him.
Next day he showed up with an oak call named "old nailer"
complete with nail holes, for an old nailer.
It sounds so good he was afraid to put finish on it.

Best thing about these.

Very nice coalbank. I have a buddy from up around Potter that used to make some nice calls. Jason Stanley, he's a member here although not very active. Do you know him?

I run an old Lynch paddle/box call. It was my dad's and is at least fifty years old. That and a wingbone are all I ever use despite the efforts of friends who try convincing me I need a vest full of different calls.

I'll be heading up to camp in northwest Potter Co. the end of this week for a week of chasing the thunder chickens around the endless mountains.

Anyhow, nice work, the inlays are cool.

Eh...wot?

The last sentence -read carefully...." how I COULD have still brought him .." In other words, I couldn't . Later, Kip explained to me what I COULD have done. So- I learned . I was, however, still having a great time in that my new box call got his attention within 20 minutes of taking it out of the package grin

There was a maker in I believe Venango making a two piece small box.
The side profile was like an "h".
The striker was a ripped dowel'
I wish I still had one for CB to borrow.

The tall side of the h broke if you sat on it (in your pocket).

Thanks for the kind words. Don't know Jason.

Wright bros; That tip is for the ladies. The men should have it figured out. Now I have to call her and ask for that tip back. I'm not getting any younger you know.

Sharon, we need to talk prior to season! 🤫

Bought a "Full Choke" call for my brother when you were in Marshfield several years back. He liked it so well that I ordered one for myself later. We were hunting together yesterday and used both of our calls. You do great work! They look as good as they sound.
