Want new trolling motor, 12 volt, bow mounted. Question is go with electric steer pedal or cable pedal. Have had cables in the past, like the Minnkota Power drive electric , but had read issues with pedal. Cable model is $150.00 less. They have a Power drive with a removable bracket that seems nice, take the motor off in the winter. Any experience welcome. Putting motor on 16 ft deep vee, boat weighs bout 850 lbs.

Mainly bass fishing for bass, casting lures to shore, small lakes.

I have the MinnKota 55# Power drive. It's been good to me. Keep sand and dirt out of the foot control and you won't have any trouble. I have had cable drive models in the past and it sucks when a cable breaks too. I stumbled across a backup foot control at a yard sale awhile back so I have a spare with me all the time. I think I gave $10 for it.

If you are comparing the mini kota power drive to the minn kota edge I would get the power drive . The power drive has the digital maximizer and I don't believe the edge does. Run time on a battery is way better with the maximizer .

I sure wish they still made the 17# thrust. Perfect for a canoe or johnboat and they're easy to carry around.

My Minnkota bow mount has a remote speed and steering control that I wear around my neck and control it all from anywhere in the boat. It is wonderful for keeping the right distance from shore and around objects. I would never go back to a foot control because of the versatility. What he said! I bass fish a lot like you described and always ran the cable foot control. I got a really good deal on an electric steer pull off because the guy was old school and wanted the cable steer. I didn’t really like the electric foot pedal control but it also came with a remote that straps on to your wrist like a watch. I can run the trolling motor from anywhere in the boat, also the auto pilot feature is awesome too. It basically keeps self adjusting to keep you pointed in the direction you want to go.

I would go with cable drive if I was you. Bass fishing and fishing down the bank the cable has more controll. If your doing a lot of actual trolling or controlled drifting power drive with remote is it. This would get my vote for the type of fishing you are doing. Power drive steers slow around shallow water obstacles. Trolling motors are kind of hard to come by right now, keep that in mind as you look. If you see one you like, buy it because they aren't as readily available as usual.
