I've got a Ford 8N with the side mount distributor that Im wanting to switch over to 12 volt. Lots of videos on making this change on front mount distributors, but I cant find any for the side mount. Is the process the same?

Found it. Pertronix kit will replace.the points, so not more fiddling with that, and comes with a coil, made for 12v negative ground. They make them for front mounts too.

pertronix

I just checked and it looks like I can get that kit. I would have to see if I could find another generator.

I did this to Farmall with salvage parts.
Not Ford though though it might work the same.

Never mind. My recipe does not eliminate points.

You need to buy a kit, like this one: https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/...sion-Kit-Side-Mount-Distributor_5231.htm

One thing to remember, these were originally 6V positive ground, you will be switching to 12V negative ground.

I've swapped 2 over, and it wasn't a complicated deal. Purists will tell you that since they were set up as 6V, leave em. For convenience sake, the 12V helps. But, if you are only doing it because you having starting "issues"... better off to fix the issue than just paint over with 2x the voltage.
