Thanks to the ones who followed along my " Iowa trapper"1000 coon goal all on video this last year, I fell a little short but already making plans to become more efficient. By making these videos I learned alot, not just by my own mistakes, but by advice and ideas from other trappers. I know I can't please everybody, and definitely got my share of harsh words from the anti community, as well as people who don't see a reason to harvest coon with the current market. There are definitely better trappers then me around, I know a few on this site alone, guys that can catch 2000+. I just wanted to share the good bad and ugly, while having a fulltime job, as well as a young family, it was a struggle to trap hard, but under no circumstances was I gonna quit being a dad, or a husband. Thats priority number 1.
I plan to do it next year and redeem myself! It was fun but alot more work then I anticipated. Thanks again!

I really wanted to show more then just coon in traps, what I'm looking for, how to handle a big days catch, as well as other non trapping things that come up, sick kids, orthodontist appts, etc.

Nice work and please know it was fun for me to follow along. We don't get the ROW trapping experience here so have to take a few more steps and permissions but still doable for a hard worker. Loved your simple consistent approach and proof it works. Set in sign, and repetition of sets. Thank you so much and I am looking forward to following your quest next year. Jim

You did well. Please take this as a tip and not a critic. Water trapping is where your 1000 coon season could come from when dps fizzle out. I know mink are not worth much but they are a good added bonus too. Hope you make your goals and I am glad you have your priorities correct in my humble opinion. Good luck this year. Don't know whether the market will come around but if it does I will be out again. If not I will have time to watch your videos. LLL

I knoe alot of big trappers say hit water, but around here, at least this year, they just weren't there. I think next year when it gets cold and land trails lock up I'll start finishing fur instead of waiting as long as I did, so I'm not fleshing into the summer. Good idea about scraping them while it is cool or even cold. If you have coon in your dry land you have three times as many at the water especially if you get snow on the ground unless you are saying you had no water and then that is another story. DP's have there place and for a time. Water is where your numbers will be. Either way good job and I hope the market comes back and you hit your goal. LLL
