Or is the price of trucks, new OR used, through the roof? John, it is horrible and it seemed to start a few years ago. Prices are crazy Mac

Chip shortage from Covid last year. 10's of thousands of new vehicles "parked" in storage w/o the computer chip to make them run. A lot of car manufacturers canceled their orders during covid, while computer/cell phone companies kept up with demand. Now there is an overwhelming demand for the chip that makes the car run and not enough to cover the contracts. As such, used car prices are through the roof because they actually run. While you see bare dealer lots, with new inventory in storage because the vehicle can't be sold without said chip. I kinda dislike the fact we've gotten to the point it takes a chip to operate a vehicle.

The price of low milage(under 50,000 km) used vehicles 2 years old or so, is near the same as new,has been that way here for quite a few years. The price drops significantly on used vehicles when the odo is reading over 100,000 km. A lot of the low milage used vehicles are lease trade ins. My advice to anyone looking to buy a used vehicle is to buy privately off of someone you know who had it new.

Higher prices and shorter warranties today not a great combo.

I looked for a truck for over a year and finally found 1 I could afford. 2500 Chevy 2010 but it looks like a new 1. My new boss had it and didn't like for it to get rained on...lol Told his wife she better take a pic of it before I left their house cause she wouldn't see it that clean again...lol
Donnie
Less than a week later I sent his a pic of 2 Tom turkeys lay'in on the flatbed and told him it had already got bloody...he text back and said I could wash it off...lol

A few years back AutoTrader bought out Kelley Blue Book and since they have a vested interest in selling used cars they jacked the price is up to rip off the American citizen. Also, Americans being a materialistic culture are willing to pay high prices and keep paying and take longer to loans just to have the latest and greatest that's keeping prices high because the companies can get it.

yes but the price of everything is up
very close to the same as the price of gold
I think the CPI consumer price index is being deceived
if you only look at durable goods and fuel everything costs more
simple things like a fishing lure that was 3.79 in 2019 is 4.39 today
a 22 rifle that was 321 in 2019 is 379 today list price not sale price
a truck that was 6K in 2019 is 6K today with 15K more miles
even fast food seem higher some places I notice have a basket meal that looks like the normal price but they stopped including the drink and they get you for that seems like 10-11 dollars is the new price of a drive through meal per person. seemed like it was 7-8 a couple years ago.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Started back a lot further then most realize. Cash for clunkers took a LOT of the older vehicles off the road and the left overs are reflecting that. Here I see a lot of older yodas with over 300,000 miles on them and a price tag of over $4,000 on them. Many look like been wacked all around with a ball bat.

Bought my Tacoma in 2018 it came with a stack of manuals (6) and I was offered a stack of warranty options for the individual systems on the vehicle that’s how complex they have become how can anyone afford to fix that complex of systems if they poop out?

I took my 2015 tundra in for oil change and salesman approached me about trading it in or buying it out right. I questioned him about price and the speculative offer was around 29k. That got me thinking. 2022 tundras supposed to come with eco boost engine with way better mileage. Hmmmmm!!!! Can I go a year without a truck?

So true. That's a big reason I'm buying another older truck next.

Yep, a bare bones truck is what we need...heater, AC, radio, and that's it. Back to basics. Knob controls,

There are more resources available to buyers today than ever before. I basically bought my last truck sight unseen. Drove close to a thousand miles round trip to pick it up and it is exactly what I wanted. I could offer it for sale and make 12-13k on it within a week. Learn how to shop online. Learn about adverse branding. Get aggressive, don’t be timid or ashamed to offer 2k below NADA or KBB trade- in. A year ago was a GREAT time to buy, foot traffic was nearly nonexistent. Dealer floor plans were getting underwater. Best time to buy I’ve seen in a looooong time. KAATN
