What I was getting at is even the bigger cities can't keep a lot full. The vehicles they do have are over priced and they are still selling. The small mom/pop auto lots don't have a chance. I did a lot of looking and finally found what I wanted. Even then there was no budge. Cash doesn't mean anything anymore.

I have a Ram 3500 Megacab. I bought it in 2018 and it’s worth 10k more than I paid for it. It’s got a lift and a ranch hand bumper. She’s too tall for me to trap from much so I’m looking to get a regular sized truck. Prices are insane.

Dealers in big cities have a constant flow of “deals” moving through their store. The incentive to close any one in particular; unless it’s a fatty or the sales mgr is behind on his or her quota and the end of the month is near, just isn’t .

I negotiated on a truck cash in hand at like branded dealer 2017 BigHorn 4x4 with 30+k mi $28,500 best they could do. City of 50+k population The sales mgr even suggested I was trying to buy too much truck!!

I bought a 2019 BigHorn 4x4 exactly the same options w/17,290mi.
from a ford store (adverse branding) in a town of 7800 population (low foot traffic)

$26,659 total off the lot.

The internet car lists like the “ car guru “ can let you travel hundreds of miles, “look” at hundreds of vehicles, on dozens of dealers lots from the comfort of your own home and all that in a few hours. Heck if you have a printer you can save the interesting ones to make a side by side comparison for FREE!!

With the virus scare winding down I agree lots of people out and about and volume is up.
I bought a year ago almost to the day. Would have to hustle a bit harder today and probably not do as well as I did.

I have been looking for a quad cab 4x4 3/4 or one ton. I'm not willing to pay what they want.

My wifes primary is an 01 excursion 7.3 with 389k so she was due for something also.

We ended up getting a 2019 doge carivan with 5k miles 28 months or 36 k bumper to bumper and 7 years 100 k powere train for 23k out the door.

Not what I was wanting but will do 80% of what we needed.

Truck prices are insane.

Prices are crazy for sure, hard to find a bare bones pick up anymore.
Let alone a regular cab pickup, last regular cab truck I had I had to order it in.
That's the way to go, even bare bones are pretty fancy.
I try to keep them ten years , and hope they don't nickel and dime me to much.

Inflation is the most sneaky way to increase taxes on everything and everybody.
Sales of inflated items brings in more taxes. These stimulus payments feel good when they hit our bank accounts, but they only serve to pay for things that cost more and inflate things forever. Inflated prices stay long after our little payments are spent. Free government money destroys our currency and economy in the long term, inflates prices and ends up as hidden taxation. Wealth can only be gained by producing something. Can also be gained by investing in someone else producing something.

A little off the subject of buying a truck, but my explanation of why things are up. That and not enough computer chips to put into the new rigs so they can be sold. Should be some good deals on new, year old models next year. If they get them running.

Just bought a new 5th wheel RV so we needed a truck to pull it. Literally bought the only one like it in Texas with less than 15 minutes to spare. As I was signing for it, an offer to buy it came in. Thankfully, my iPhone alerted me to the dealer delivery in Dallas and we bargained with the sales person as we drove to buy it. No Ford Z plan accepted. Nope. Not a nickel of budge on the 350 diesel dually's price.
But, I did get $4,000 more in trade in for my Tundra than my best guesstimate.

It's a sellers market right now. Period. Paragraph. End of story.

Looked up my 2018 Tacoma last night trade in value is what I paid for it in excellent condition $500 less in good condition that seems nuts not sure if I should trade it off to keep one in warranty or ride it out for the next 10 years?

Hardly any used trucks around my area. Everything is going to the US on a weekly basis when it's traded in.

Just bought a 2019. One dealer wouldn't even sell without a trade-in. My old truck is a 2007. They are hard up. Same truck was $4300 less in Feb. and they won't budge. Weird times when you can't buy something with cash.
