Back in the day. Western Interior Alaska. If I was in the SuperCub or on snowmachine. 20, 30...60 below. A thermos of coffee, a bag of moose jerky, a roll of semi-frozen chocolate-chip cookie dough wrapped in wax paper, and a little tub of agutuk. Stayed warm all day.

I have been outside when it was 20-25 below all day. Can't imagine 60 below. I like tea with a lot of sugar in it for a little break. Won't stay to hot once you open the thermos though and pour some out. Wrapping the thermos in a spare sweater helps. Drinking thermos of hot sweet tea brings its own problems. Like a full bladder. Getting to willy in all those clothes, in cold weather, is not fun either lol. I like a breakfast with plenty of fat. Half pound of bacon or sausage and toast with lots of butter. When I am done for the day, and relaxing someplace warm, I like a LITTLE snort of whiskey. Crown or Jack or JIm is always good.

Cool weather food for me is my "all day soup" . I like to use a bag of the 15 bean soup beans that soaked over night .Then a pound or two of any kind of sausage to add flavor and a little fat. I season with salt, pepper, oinions, garlic and oregano. I put cut up rutabaga in in place of potatoes. Put in Crock pot in morning, ready in the afternoon. Great with some dense homemade bread.

Soup and grilled cheese can warm the chill out of my ol bones every time. Chilly and clam chowder would definitely top my list but around here there are some ol girls that make a mean tortilla soup that will work just fine.

Jack Add some dried salmon strips with lots of oil and a few pieces of chocolate and you can go all day. Agutuk is so good it can be dangerous ! Each serving should come with a surgeon general's warning label
