Having a well drilled. Hit good water with excellent makeup, (30+ gallon a minute) the only problem is I'm around 4ppm iron. I'm not worried about it for health reasons, I'm worried about that staining. Will 4ppm stain? Googled it but can't really find a direct answer.

EPA guidelines say they recommend under 3ppm but nothing about staining.

4 ppm iron is barely anything. Are you in the business?

There is a chance it will drop. The testing was done yesterday right after drilling and the water was still cloudy. Monday, after the well has had time to settle, they will take another reading. The driller said it may drop.

On a big outfit my bunkhouse was fed by a rain catchment system off a covered arena and there was a filter system that they told me would filter out both organics and metals.
Maybe if it doesnt drop you could put one of those inline.

When I lived on Hatteras Island, I had a shallow well used only for lawn irrigation. The well water would stain concrete, painted surfaces, tree trunks, ornamental river rocks, and vehicles if spay came in contact. My landscaper installed a 30-gallon siphon tank that mixed a commercial solution with the water coming out of the pump. This was effective but it was best to avoid allowing the water to contact unintended surfaces. I had to watch the wind as well.
The product I used was manufactured in Florida and came in gallon jugs. I mixed about 2/3 of a gallon for a tank of water. I don't recall the siphon rate but it required refilling about every two or three weeks. The company that made the iron control product also made a product that would clean the iron stain from most surfaces.
If you would like the name of the product, PM me. I can make a few calls and find the name.

You should be able to filter out the iron. That's what I have is an iron filter on the water I get from the well. Plus, we have an osmosis system for water we use for drinking or cooking.

So yea, after letting the well run and flush for two solid days. I still have 3ppm Iron. Other than that, my water is almost perfect. Not even hard really. Here's the results:
well is 70 feet deep with around 50 feet static and regenerates about 30 gallon a minute.
Hardness- 6 grains per gallon PH- 7.3 Iron- 3ppm TDS- 124 Manganese- 0
So after about 4 days of research, talking with people in the know and searching for a system, I decided on a air injection system using Katalox light as a medium. It uses 2 cubic feet of media and can do about 9 gallons a minute. It should be more than enough for my home even when watering the garden or the vineyard. No chemicals to deal with, no filters to replace and the media should last 5-7 years before it will need replaced. The system will backflush every night as you must do with iron. The only downfall to the Katalox light is that it can raise your PH very high for 1-6 weeks depending on what is in your water but that will pass and it is not a certainty it will even happen with my water. So, I should be good, the only thing that will screw me is if I get iron bacteria, then it's a whole new ballgame.

Like I said ,use a water softner Yes, that too. I have a water softener in addition to a bubbler that adds air into the water line. The iron filter uses a special sand and back flushes about 3 times per week. The filter needs to have the sand replaced about every 5 years. The whole system removes most of the iron. We use the water that has gone through the filtration to wash clothes, take a shower, etc. We just don't ingest any of it. We have the osmosis system for coffee, cooking, etc.

That's all fine but I don't need a water softener. The system I bought will do the job plus I hate soft water.
