The whiskeyjack is not an elusive bird per se,they are almost tame They will land right on your hand if you are holding a piece of bread. But you will never find their nest.

I'm talking about the kind with wings and feathers... not the two legged ones... but I was wondering. I'm surrounded by cuckoos here and they talk all day, but I've only seen one in 12 years. Aside from that it would be the hummingbird, because they don't exist here oddly enough.
I know for some it might be the gobbler they were looking for in April that never showed up.
Just curious.
Pete Yes, the non-two-legged birds are very elusive!!! I see cuckoos fairly regularly here, but hear them by far more often...

Grouse seem to be the ghosts here seen a few yes but most years they are drumming all over in the spring but you very seldom get to see one.

For many years I listened to a strange sounding bird before I finally identified it as a Yellow Billed Cuckoo. To me they sound like a bird from an African jungle scene. I've only seen a few. After doing a feather study on them I was amazed at the softer earth tone colors and big white spots on black under their tail. We don't have a lot of them here on the river but do hear them several times during the summer. Makes my day !

The most elusive bird ever in my life was the prairie chicken and if I ever doubted that I'd try to hunt them.

Now that I think of it I never did see one of those cuckoo birds when I was over there. Would hear them all the time, usually in the evening, but never laid eyes on one. Must be like our whip-poor-wills I guess. Y’all got Whip-poor-wills in North Georgia?

Thanks Redknot... I only put that in there so Scuba1 or Leftlane wouldn't make some comment about a gal from a bar years ago.
I thought about the two leg factor, but thought the wings and feather thing would cover that.
Thanks for keeping me honest.
Pete Not keeping you honest Pete, just having fun!!
