The domelight and door chime on my ranger will not shut off like the door is open . I cant find a way to shut it off. What can I do?

Does it have a button switch in the door jam look at and test that.

I can't find a button switch any where.

Pull the fuse possibly.

there is a switch but its not a button that sticks out. its on the curved piece inside the door. spray it good with some clp or penetrating oil

I'm pretty sure there is a switch in the door latch on those. You need to remove interior door panel then remove to door latch to access the switch. Sometimes they can be lubricated to make work again but it don't seem to last. Lots of gravel travel will pack them with dust causing them to stick. Like was said before, find the fuse and pullit until you can have it looked at

If the above suggestions are not helping , check the passenger door switch. It could be faulty instead of the drivers door.

I bought a new ranger in 98. Put way over 200,000 hard miles on it. Probably 50,000 off road. Was rebuilding it when my wife crashed it about 3 years ago. Spraying inside where the switch is fixed it every time I did it. Had to take the tailgate handle loose and spray inside it and also the latch on the ends or the tailgate would not always latch.


I really liked that ranger for its ability to traverse really bad parts of the world. I had the front end rebuilt and the brakes redone including all new brake lines. Was going to put a rebuilt crate motor in as the original just didnt have any power anymore. Wife hit a bad spot on gravel and forgot the brakes were all up to snuff again. lost control and that was that. she was fine which i was real happy about.

I had that problem with mine-it was an extended cab and the latch had to be replaced-salt is hard on the back door latch.
