Local community buried a young man last week that tried cutting the ends out of a 8,000 gal diesel tank they pulled out of the ground to make a culvert. Good guy from a good family. He was a Colorado hunting guide in the fall and would come home and do ranch work in the spring and summer. People several miles away said the explosion shook their house. Be careful.

Friend of mine used to tell of a neighbor of his that welded gas and diesel tanks. He would weld it as long as the owner would sit on it why he welded. Pretty good incentive to get it squeaky clean!

Wife’s aunt lost her dad a few years ago when tried to cut the top off of a 55 gallon drum. Still not sure what he was thinking. Be careful

Scott, are you going to find a recording of Houston's count down to launch sequence leading up to this? (just in case of course- we are all rooting for you even if it doesn't sound like it)

Most all cars and trucks running today have so little co in their exhaust they won't work to displace the o2 in a tank. I have used, and will again, a small engine like a mower or something similar. Even then sometimes you need to "richen up" the exhaust to get the job done. Takes a little longer to get it done but worth it in the long run. The older the motor the better.

P.S. a car or truck exhaust may be enough to force all the gas fumes out of a tank if vented properly. Just don't count on the co being adequate to neutralize the gas and/or o2.

The MOC min oxygen content for combustion is generally accepted to be 12%. The air we breathe is 21% O2
So you’re saying the exhaust on newer vehicles maybe as much as 50% air? Or contain over 12% oxygen.
Sorry I have a hard time rapping my mind around that.
The triangle of fire is. OXYGEN, FUEL, IGNITION. By purging the tank with exhaust fumes you remove TWO
of the three. The fuel, in this case propane, and the oxygen to support combustion.
For those recommendations of using a grinding wheel without neutralizing the fuel/air mix. Two words come to mind , white hot. The sparks off a grinder are about 1700 F flash point of propane is about the same as paper.
