I am thinking about upping the game in my song dog control efforts and getting one of this electronic call thingamabobs. I have no idea about them and right now can't make an educated guess if they would even work where I am or how to use them. So where would a guy find out about these things ?? Or get sort of pointed in the right and cheap direction.

I started out with handcalls and then got a Johnny Stewart cassette caller. Have had plenty of success with both. I now have a FoxPro and it's a pretty good caller. The thing I like about the E callers is I can set up the speaker away from my location and control with a remote. At certain times having the ability to sound like a challenging female coyote or some other coyote language can come in handy.
In summary I carry both and still use both. I'm glad I have the FoxPro. It was worth the money. Out here in the west I'm convinced that the main FoxPro sounds used have been heard too many times by coyotes and late season coyotes are hard to call in. I often turn to the handballs then.

With the thermal obsession sweeping the nation it aint just the west thats getting pounded. That reason is exactly why i switched to an icotech. Dont settle on an older used foxpro-theyre remotes are junk. Heard the new ones are good. Still the same sounds tho.

I'll be the devil's advocate here, none of the above mentioned calls will work worth a darn unless you kill the coyote or whatever you're trying to call in . What I mean by that statement is don't miss the shot many people make a mistake or just flat out miss the target animal and educate it so it's harder to get to come in a second time .
Around here there's quite a few folks with E callers with about the same sound selections so the coyote is out mousing and didn't see you walk in and set up to start calling , within a few seconds that coyote hears the injured rabbit or woodpecker or what have you and it's heading out of the county as fast as it can . Is the story I've heard time and again , which doesn't help the landowners in the neighborhood .
Just food for thought. Allan

I remember being in a coyote calling contest near Tensleep, Wyoming and watching a coyote get up from its bed after calling with my Johnny Stewart Jackrabbit cassette and seeing it hightailing it out of that valley. Hadn't seen me, it was about 450 yards away...it was just the recording that spooked it. They call the heck out of them all year round in that country.

Ok so here is my situation. I have a power line running along the top of my property under which I keep the ground mowed with a brush hog, have oats planted in some places and a vegetable garden close to the boat. I have a clear sight from the boat slightly down hill for about 350 yards. I would set up the call at around 250 yards away in a low spot that I can oversee from the top of the hill. I don't care about fur damage as I won't be skinning them anyway, so I'll use my 223 WSSM A bolt that I can shoot hitting soda cans reliably out to 400 yards with 55 grain soft points. I have seen and caught a few on my food plot and now I have them on the trail camera down there in daylight hours when it used to be at night only. So my thought is, that if they are roaming around during daylight ( early mornings mostly ) I may be able to call them to the clear cut power line where I have them in sight and in range. I have called foxes in with a tough call back in the UK but thats as far as my predator hunting knowledge goes. My guess is that it is next to useless in my current situation.

So Mr Scuba. 350 yards down hill from your boat = underwater. Interesting, frogmen coyotes.......jk

No water involved. Noah got away with it, so why shouldn't I As in my post above I am proposing to use a rifle and not a speargun I also drilled a couple of holes in my boat to let the water out Here is a pic looking up towards the place where the boat is parked

I would in your situation get a FoxPro (I have the Fusion) and use rodent speaks at low volume and no visuals at all. In my experience you have about twice the chance of spooking coyotes as attracting them with visual aids.

Maybe get an affordable electric caller and some mouth calls, give it all a good shot and see how it goes?
